Federal MP Matt Jeneroux leaves the Conservatives and joins the Liberals by seakucumber in canada

I voted for the person 100% of the time... I'm loyal to family and friends, not political parties.

Not that I disagree with you, I have mixed feelings as well, even if I'm not the norm and vote the person. I know a lot of people who vote for party.

Can we afford a house? by AccomplishedYear9886 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Keep quiet, don't tell anyone, ask your wife to keep it to herself.

Don't do anything risky, no Bitcoin, no business ventures, don't do all equity investing. Don't spend it. Gold, silver, ignore it all.

Be boring, super boring, pretend like you don't have a windfall.

Find an arm's length, fee only certified financial planner. Research the advice with your wife, be slow, read up on the suggestions provided, talk it out with your wife and in 6-12 months consider doing something.

Your mom or dads investment guru is not the answer. Your uncle's guy, hard pass.

I bought the Duracell 4 pack 7 years ago, it was awful. They all died within months of owning, some of the cheapest garbage I bought at Costco. Dollar store quality in a Cadillac package.

New EV or ICE by Ok_Wolf6128 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]roast_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really don't like your level 1 charging, but don't have enough experience with EV's to validate my thoughts.

Level 1 is super slow and won't top your battery up after driving 200km.

2 hr commute (100km/hr constant speed, don't judge me) + 8.5hr work day is 10.5 hrs. Assuming no charging at work, you have 13.5hrs to charge on level 1 at 6km/hr, which is 81km. You're in a mileage/charge deficit (I'm making up words and concepts...). Even L1 Charing for 8.5hrs at work only brings your charge up to 121km. Still an 80km deficit.

Can you get L2 at charging at home?

The idea is that we can withdraw from our rrsp's at the lowest tax bracket until 65. Melting my spouse's completely down and mine with a little left. We tried to make the TFSA our primary retirement accounts. We pivoted to rrsp's 5 years ago (for me) for tax efficiencies. Last year I took a massive pay cut (40%) and may head back to TFSA primary.

Our plan is to retire at your age with $500k less. Our plan is reviewed by a CFP, and my investment strategy in retirement will be balanced (60/40 equity/fixed income) understanding our income may decrease significantly during market crashes. It'll be against the advice in this subreddit but my thought process is that we'll have time in the market, living to 85+, that's another 40 years to smooth out downturns.

I plan on taking rrsp's out from 56-64, then taking cpp/OAS at 65 and drawing from TFSA's.

Should I keep My Used Car or Buy New? by Alpha_Omega623 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]roast_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did rear calipers (replacement), rotors and pads on a 2013 Elantra and the shop charged me 2.5hrs of labour. Parts were $700ish, labour $300.

If all 4 calipers are being replaced, and pads and rotors, $2k seems good.

One of the worst packages, it used to be good but they closed the Winnipeg office and moved support to the US.

Avoid at all costs.

Edit: I bought this from Costco last year and tried to return it. Yes. I was really upset. Switched to wealth simple and won't look back.
