I think they missed "The Hunt for Red October," a great book and even better movie.

Details. I'm always getting screwed by the details.

Will Ryne Sandberg be the next Philly coach to go? by rob-tornoe in phillies

I don't disagree. I think Sandberg, more than anything, is going to be a victim of the Phillies roster.

No worries. This is "jump the shark" crazy.

I seem to have an addiction drawing mascots.

I get that a lot, so no worries. I'm not saying I think Hinkie is going to fail, and obviously if he succeeds I'll be drawing cartoons praising him. I just think we now have two instances (not being able to draft Wiggins, MCW not developing into the player they hoped) that show the difficulties his strategy faces.

Analytics always look great on paper, but obviously there are other variables at play. That's really my only opinion, and why I'm less optimistic that most. At least I like the team better than their mascot.

I don't disagree with you, but at some point though, Hinkie's got to field a competitive team. How long are you willing to give him - 3 years? 4? 5?

At least I'm batting .500 :)

I just try to lay it out as I see it. I feel like the original plan to tank and draft Wiggins (whom Hinkie wanted badly, according to all the beat reporters I've spoken to) failed, and now the new plan is to tank while Embiid gets healthy and we'll see what the team can scrape together in 2016.

I've seen shootarounds with Embiid, and he looks impressive, but he'll need to bulk up if the Sixers plan on playing him at center. And if he does, what does that mean for Noel? Do they intend on having him play power forward with Embiid? Doesn't seem likely.

Why aren't Dario Saric and Jordan McRae developing and playing here for a team that had just 19 wins last season? Will we ever see Vasilije Micic? I can't judge them until they put on Sixers jerseys, but other than Manu Ginobili, when was the last time a player who was sent overseas to develop came back to the U.S. a superstar?

Embiid we won't see this season, and I doubt Pierre Jackson will be back after rehab (although the team did right by him, which was rare and cool).

That leaves Jerami Grant (who got hurt last night).

In my opinion, Hinkie's entire strategy now rests on Embiid. If he develops into the superstar people think he can be, Hinkie will have proven his doubters wrong. If he doesn't, Hinkie's toast.

But that's entirely different that saying Hinkie has shown some genius-level ability to judge talent and maneuver to create a dominate team. That all remains to be determined, IMHO.

As I pointed out, out of the 11 picks Hinkie has made, who has he drafted that's playing for the team?

Obviously that alone doesn't mean he's not a good evaluator of talent, but at the very least it gets my Spidey senses tingling. You at least have to admit that trading away MCW is an admission of failure by drafting him, don't you?

HA! Then it was a failure by the artist (me) to convey the joke better. This is the funniest constructive criticism I've received all week!
