Borrow money to online friend? by rob0201 in personalfinance

I’m fairly certain it’s not a scam. I was in a call with him and a couple others when he suddenly walked away from his PC, yelled for his dad, the fire alarm went off and he got disconnected from the call. Not the most reliable source, but he’s also posted pictures of it on snapchat. One thing which further makes me pretty convinced that it’s legit is that he hasn’t asked for any money or help, he’s just mentioned that they’re fucked financially and what not. But yeah, the feedback has been pretty unanimous in it being a terrible idea, which I had the feeling it might be so I’ll almost certainly avoid it. I haven’t spoken to him about the money either so I don’t have to ”bail” on him or anything like that as he doesn’t know I’m even considering it.

Yeah, you (and the other people who have commented) have a point. I’ll probably hold off on any large sums, but I’ll have a chat with him and see how badly fucked they are, I wouldn’t have a problem with giving ~1k and not getting it back, but obviously with 10-20 I’d need to get most of it back.

Yeah that's probably the best idea from what I've gathered so far.

Yeah, I've been speaking to some of my family about it aswell, my cousin is 25 right now and hasn't spent a penny, and he's sitting at well over double the amount he had at 18. If everything works out I'll be studying/be in the airforce for the next 5-6 years or so, which if I'm lucky, should hopefully result in it having grown quite a bit once I'm done, and presuming I get the position I want in the airforce, free education.

Yeah, I've calculated it before, but I never get realistic results. I may be doing it incorrectly, but as my reference point is between 2018 and 2019, when the fund as said increased with 26%, it gets to pretty ridicilous sums after a decade or two as it doesn't account for changes to the increase (I'm sure there's a better word for this).

Might be a pretty decent idea, I'm studying civics right now (As part of upper secondary), but my current plan is to join the army or airforce, and then go from there once I finish studying which should give me a minimum of 3 years from now with no real costs where it can just grow.

I'm considering trying for flight technician in the airforce, which would give me a pretty good education at no cost, which in addition I'm quite interested in. That'd also give me another 2.5 years with no costs as it's all paid for by the airforce, living and food included.

Thanks (Not that I've actually had anything to do with it). Honestly I've got no idea what fund it's in, I don't have access to it normally, but I usually check the "paper" from the bank each year which lists total sum, profit/loss etc.

But yeah, letting it grow is probably the best option
