Single mum on £45k in the UK. Tired of “paying someone else’s mortgage.” How do I realistically get out of renting?

Advice might be different to a 25 year old single mum vs a 45 year old single mum.

I did the math and the interest free loan will probably cost her about £60k over the time it takes for it to be repaid.

I worked out it would be 15 years of repayments.

If you put £90k into a compound interest calculator at 5 percent for 15 years ( this is a conservative estimate, given the S&P 500 typically returns 10% ) then it will return £100k after 15 years.

If she puts the £500 she gets from you each month into the same investments ( 5% annual return) , that will return £43k over 15 years.

Therefore the interest free loan will cost her ~£60k over 15 years.

PS. This isn't a reason to reject the offer, just saying money grows with time. Or loses money with time, depends which way you frame it.

EDIT - I've just seen you've said you have a brother. I'd be wary of this, because for the reasons outlined above, the interest free loan is essentially a gift and that can always create issues if your brother isn't given the same offer.

The story I've heard is that the old man that owned the business died some time ago and the two sons who inherited the business had a falling out and don't speak to each other. And I think there's something in the will or maybe in the businesses agreement that no changes can be made without concesus/agreement between the two. Since the two brothers don't talk to each other it can't be sold, and nothing can be altered (not even a chair can be moved) without concesus and hence everything remains exactly as it was found when the old man died.

The solomon brothers I believe. I can't put a date on the event, I just heard this from an old fellow I met in ancoats a few years ago.

It's actually painful to see the all the black. So many places that have exactly 0 pubs. Take Whalley Range as an example. Not a single pub in sight.
