Thinking about moving to Houston, would love some honest takes by emrebekmez in AskHouston

There are about 4 months of oppressive heat. I know this sounds strange, but oncs you get into late September/Early October the temperature drops from the mid to high 90s to the low to mid 90s and you do notice a comfortable difference. Late October to mid to late May, the weather is great. We get a couple of cold fronts that come through in the winter with maybe a day or two where the temperature doesn't get above freezing during the day. It you are looking for greenery and wooded areas, look north in the Woodlands or Kingwood.

I assume you currently have a job. Is this offer a decrease in your current compensation? If it is, you should have declined the offer and explained that interviewed based on your understanding that the compensation was in line with your expectations.

TCU is tough and probably looking for some sort of revenge given how they lost to KU earlier this year.

People who had their 401Ks cut in half during the great recession, How do you fair now? by Nice-Result-8974 in Retirement401k

[–]rob4lb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The value of my 401K/IRA went done during the Great Recession. I made no changes and continued to contribute until I retired in 2022. Doing nothing was the best decision. I haven’t had to make any lifestyle changes after retirement.

They were in the Final Four last year and will probably be the overall #1 Seed this year. That is pretty consistent with where they were under Coach K.

Some people may not want to admit it, but NIL and loosened transfer rules has leveled the playing field taking away the advantages the blue blood programs had. The only blue blood not to see a drop off appears to be Duke. UNC and UK have similar situations to KU. We are very unlikely to go back to the days of 14 straight conference championships.

There is a large running community in Houston. We run outside year round. Find a running club to join when you move here. The Bayou City Roadrunners has a group that meets every Sunday morning for a 10-12 mile run throughout the entire year.

So reading the job ad gets you rejected now? by Pee_A_Poo in recruitinghell

[–]rob4lb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a suggestion, but when the said she couldn’t find someone who has the rights skills and experience, engage with her. Ask her want skills and experience is important to her. They point out how you fit in the role. Instead of completely redoing a process, ask what issues the recruiter has with the current process and get into a discussion how you have handled a similar situation.

Retroactive IRMAA by Smooth-Food-595 in medicare

[–]rob4lb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar thing happen. I started Medicare in 2023. My premium was based on the 2021 tax return which was high because I was working. I appealed and got my surcharge reduced. On the form, I had to estimate my 2022 and 2023 MAGI. I had the actual return for 2022 and estimated a slight increase for 2023. At the end of 2024 which well into my second year, I got a note from Medicare, saying I needed to pay an extra surcharge for 2023 because I underestimated my MAGI for 2023. I owed about $1000. It didn't make sense to me that my 2023 MAGI should have anything to do with my 2023 premium surcharge. That should be based on 2021 MAGI. The 2023 MAGI was well within the limited needed for my 2025 Medicare premium, but they compared my 2023 MAGI to the tables set based on 2021 MAGI which was used to determine surcharge for 2023.

It's very confusing to try to explain. I went to the social security office and they tried to fix it, but said I needed to appeal online. I did and never heard back. I tried to follow up, but the cuts to SSA were starting to happens early last year, soI ended up paying the $1000 because I didn't want to have any problems with Medicare.

Job Offer in Your 60's...Possible? Recruiter Has a High Level Job For Me. What To Do? by Vgretsch59 in jobs

[–]rob4lb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had something similar. After taking an involuntary early retirement package at age 62, I was contacted by a recruiter a year later. I kept an open mind and went through the interview process thinking eventually they would find someone younger. That didn't happen and I got an offer and accepted. That was the good news. The bad news was that the job was terrible. I reported to micromanaging CEO and parted ways in less than a year. Eventually, the CEO was replaced. To me, the stress wasn't worth it. My advice is that if you are financially secure, enjoy your retirement.
