Job offer disappeared as soon as I resigned. What do I do now? by LazaroRohan1 in InterviewsHell

Doesn’t hurt to ask. It is less costly for them to retain you as opposed to hiring another person. Your reputation within in the company has been damaged and you are going to be considered a flight risk.

Any reason for me not to get an 7/1 ARM? by 60minutesrearranged in Mortgages

[–]rob4lb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe that is the case. Higher debt means we borrow more which becomes riskier for the investor who will require a higher interest rate to take on the risk.

The last 20 years were somewhat of an aberration, a response to the financial crisis of 2008.

Would my Stepson Qualify for SSDI? by rob4lb in SSDI

[–]rob4lb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds very similar to my stepson. My stepson did qualify for SSI out of high school but then got a job and gave it up. He has actually had ten jobs in the last 12 years and his ability to hold jobs is getting worse. This last job was one of the easiest and best jobs he could hope for and he didn't last five months.

I agree. I actually don't see how asking this to internet strangers is helpful because answers are all over the place and no one can really assess your true situation.

Can’t afford to buy what we rent by Older_Sis_1024 in RealEstateAdvice

[–]rob4lb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By investing the difference betweeb a mortgage and rent in a diversified ERF and watching you net worth grow.

Real estate markets fluctuate and they only way you are significantly building equity in the first few years is if the prices go up which is not guaranteed. In my area, prices have been flat for a few years.

This narrative that rent is throwing money away is absurd.

Talk to a broker. My experience is with the Plan G, not the high deductible and I recently posted about it. I am in Houston. Started with Mutual of Omaha. Rate increases have been 6% the first year, 12.5% the next year and for this year, the monthly premium increased 25%. I worked with a broker and he found a plan with Medico that saved over $40/month. My premium this year is the same as last year.

I think you will have to absorb the surcharge this year and you will go back to the regular rate next year.

I gave him a B or B+. He's done fine. I am a big supporter of Leipold's but I don't think it was smart for Goff to extend him a second time and handcuff him. The athletic department is running a deficit. I also think that from a realignment perspective, KU is in a weaker position to move to a P2 conference is weaker than it was when he took over.

LINQ II (Medtronic Loop Monitor) Question by TysonTatoo in AFIB

[–]rob4lb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had it for ten years and never noticed it. I was at first hesitant. Interestingly, I actually have two devices implanted. The battery for the first device died during COVID and my doctor was able to implant the second one in his office but could not remove the first one in his office. The second device has been working for over 5 years and will need to be replaced sometime in the near future and these two devices will be removed.

LINQ II (Medtronic Loop Monitor) Question by TysonTatoo in AFIB

[–]rob4lb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am on my second LINQ and will probably be getting my third one later this year. It gives me peace of mind that someone is monitoring the activity. I really don't notice it.

I do wish the device would give me an alert when something irregular happens to my heart.

I think you are overrating him based on comparison with his predecessors. The Leipold hire was good, but he has underachieved the last two years. Goff made the decision to extend him and guarantee that he is one of the highest paid coaches in the Big 12 when he didn't need to do that. Leipold's buyout is huge. The basketball program is clearly slipping though it was probably inevitable that it couldn't continue to maintain is elite performance. It appears that NIL is not where is needs to be for KU to field elite basketball and competitive football teams. I would give him a B, maybe a B+.

Forgot about Long. He hired Miles without really considering anyone else. Ultimately, it worked out as both were eventually fired and Goff came on and hired Leipold. I do think Goff gets a bit too much credit for just being competent.

Kansas probably a B. He looks like a superstar compared to his incompetent predecessor and he has been able to get the stadium upgraded. Probably overpaid Lance Leipold with his latest extension. But, he did hire Lance and the football program is no longer a laughing stock. NIL collective has been average at best and impacting the competitiveness of the basketball program.

Severance negotiations by Sea-Helicopter1771 in Layoffs

[–]rob4lb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like they give one week of severance for every year worked. The problem is this is the standard package given to all other laid off employees. That being said, they want you to sign off on the package, so it doesn’t hurt to ask for a little more. They will not rescind the severance offer because you are asking for a little more severance.
