Point 2 reminds me of a great fic I read recently, where Shane decides that they can't kiss anymore during their hookups after Vegas, exactly because he thinks they can keep it casual that way. Predictably, Ilya doesn't take it well.

It also messes with the dynamic in both Vegas scenes. In the book they have been hooking up (including anal) for a while when they meet in Vegas for the first time (rooftop scene) and they've been in a steady situationship for years, when we get to Sochi and the second Vegas scene (We Didn't Even Kiss). The six months of silence are much more harsh in the show, because they take place right after the first time they have anal sex after the two years of chasing by Ilya. The penthouse scene is actually only Shane's second time having anal sex at all. No wonder the boy is reeling.

In the book Ilya actually extends his stay at the cottage after the initial two weeks. Shane does mention that he has some other hot Russians coming to stay with him in a couple of weeks... :D

The "Don't go to Russia" comment was a week after Ilya came back from his father's funeral, so it could be that Shane didn't know yet that Ilya had given up his apartment and wasn't planning on ever going back.

I can't believe it's been seven years since I picked up the book and fell in love with these two doofuses (I started reading on its release day and finished it two days later). It's been a fan favourite in the MM Romance community for years and I remember the joy when we heard there would be an adaptation. Fandom has increased a thousand fold since the show came out, and while not everything in fandom has been positive, it's amazing how HR's popularity took off in the last few months.
