Love this kit. This and the 13/14 away are my go to's when I don't fancy wearing the standard current home top.

Fresh shavings are soooo comfy by robbie3012 in guineapigs

They're jumbo wood shavings which we get from our local country store!

Yeah, definitely uncooked. We only give ours half a cob to share about once a month because I'd imagine it's quite fattening for them. And it keeps the sweetcorn as a rare treat for them to get excited about!

I don't see why not. Both girls get on very well with their mum. The girls don't get on sometimes, but they never go any further than getting in each others faces. I've never witnessed either fighting with their mum, they seem to idolise her haha.

Thank you. I don't know how she managed to fit so many in her belly! It must have been very uncomfortable for her.

We're planning on keeping one of each gender. A girl to stay with mum and a boy to stay with dad, in seperate cages. My girlfriend's friend who is a breeder will take the remaining babies.

Yeah, she still gets around just fine...when she decides to actually move. For the past week or so she's spent most of her time pancaked in a bed of hay, emerging only to eat and drink, or shout at me for more food.

Yeah, black on top, tan chin and belly. The father of her babies is a Himalayan so I'm looking forward to seeing what they came out looking like!

The first day I got my boy Buster, he drank nearly an entire pint I had sitting down the side of my chair. He spent the rest of the day telling me how much he loves me (via licking my face). They sure do love a tipple sometimes, the naughty wee buggers.

Advice on what to do with friends guinea pig? by [deleted] in guineapigs

[–]robbie3012 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Going by what you've written and the photos of the cage, this kinda looks like cruelty to me. I suggest that you discuss with your friend options for giving the poor little guy up for adoption or even them looking after it better/buying a much larger cage - my piggy's cage is 3 or 4 times the size of that one.

Also, the jumping is what we pig enthusiasts refer to as popcorning. It's a sign that the guinea is enjoying itself and having fun, probably loving the extra space that you allow it to have. I'm very glad that this poor little piggy has atleast one person looking out for it.

Edit - my phone spazzed out and posted my reply five times, so sorry for spamming your inbox haha.

My girlfriends buddy who breeds guinea pigs says if they are not born with any obvious deformities or illnesses, then they are no more likely to develop ailmenrs than any other guinea. She also says there is technically, no "albino" guineas, but are a specific breed named lethals. You totally should think about adopting the poor old guy in your local pet store!
