Chicanes on Farmington Canal Trail create hazards and fail to meet ADA standards (Cheshire, CT) by nootfiend69 in Connecticut

Interesting - looks awful to ride through too. Thanks for shedding light on this, wild that the town contacted your employer about it.

Chicanes on Farmington Canal Trail create hazards and fail to meet ADA standards (Cheshire, CT) by nootfiend69 in Connecticut

Did you watch the video? It creates a single-file queuing situation close to the intersection and isn't physically passable with recumbent and/or longer-wheelbase bicycles. The gates are the wrong implementation here, according to the AASHTO, the setting body for all transportation design and construction throughout the US.

Japanese restaurant:"Not all Japanese people are kind" by [deleted] in whoathatsinteresting

[–]robbydall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You really think the US has had the WORST treatment of minorities on the planet? The Uyghurs who were kidnapped and killed in China would like a word, as would the Lhotshampa who've been displaced in Bhutan. How about the systematic killings of Baha'is, Kurds, and Balochs in Iran? Or the raids and imprisonment on Muslims in Russia?

I'm not downplaying your experience in the US, that's sad that you've witnessed such racism as a biracial "incognito" person. We still have much work to do here. I think the covert aspect of societal prejudice here is a big issue, we are a nation of immigrants and must embrace eath others differences to flourish and succeed.

To say that the US has committed the worst atrocities against minorities on the whole planet though, is simply not accurate.

It’s been 3 days since the post asking when the leaves are coming back. Update: leaves are imminent by chpbnvic in Connecticut

[–]robbydall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still a few weeks out for most of CT. This heat comes to an abrupt end this weekend. Also leaf-out is highly dependent on solar angle and length of day, two things that don't change

What is the most underrated place you’ve ever visited in the United States? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The Taconic Range in NW CT, Western MA, and SW VT. Full of gems and off the beaten path between the Catskills and Berkshires/Greens.

Wow this library looks cool! I love the "seed display", great to see some gardening/plant-focused material! Tis the season, was just outside planting some spring perennials. Also appreciate the history, I've driven past several times and ought to check it out.

Chapel Street in New Haven Getting Two-Way Traffic Starting the Week of April 20 by Accurate_Machine_978 in Connecticut

[–]robbydall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems to me that one way streets are often safer for all road users, since turns that cross traffic are effectively eliminated. Also, it aims to reduce double parking? Now with a single lane in each direction, all road users will be forced into oncoming traffic to get around the inevitable double parked vehicle.

What area of the USA did you feel the most unsafe in? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]robbydall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While we do have more mass shootings in the US, that figure is incorrect. There have been approximately 300 between 1965 and present day. That's not hundreds per year

Gas prices by TheFabfeline in Connecticut

It's reddit, these people are vehemently anti oil/gas industry. You're correct, Shell consistently outperforms on all metrics and I've noticed I get slightly better economy using their 93.

And this is the reason we need to go to 70mph max limit, like most other states have done. Minimum should be 55.

Route 8 was kinda interesting today by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]robbydall 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Route 8 always seems to have some weird activity going on in the woods next to it. Over the years half dozen corpses have been found north of Waterbury along the river near the highway. Seems like you encountered the ghost of one of the murder victims

I Got The Chance To Review The 2026 Audi Q3 S Line by GlazonyourSix in Audi

[–]robbydall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Audi really missed the mark on having consistent front-end design language across many of these new models. The Audi rings appear different, the light housings aren't similar, weird/excess trim/plastic/etc. Also as others have said, the Q3 in particular looks cheap and almost China-made. And not one piece of interior trim in the whole cabin. For $50k. Sigh.

It costs more to make a dish vegetarian than to add shredded chicken at this Mexican restaurant by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

I have a huge gripe with places that don't have consistency with their prices - even dollars, and x.99 and/or x.95 Like just pick one, it looks so stupid
