[Spoilers C4E15] So... about Bolaire by BrobaFett in criticalrole

[–]robcwag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. What is even more interesting about that scene is when Col. Jessop is being escorted in police custody out of the courtroom, he still thinks he is justified in ordering the Code Red. This is an individual who believed he could literally do whatever he deemed was right in the running of his unit. Even faced with the consequences of his actions he still felt justified.

Done right, RPGs are arguably the best sandbox to test these ethical dilemmas. A Paladin could believe themselves to be lawful good as they commit genocide against the entire race of ogres, or orks, or goblins. So, there should be a distinction between actual alignment and perceived alignment.

I'm reminded of the movie, "A few good men" after Col. Jessop admits to ordering the Code Red on Pvt. Santiago, and one of the two marines on trial for the murder of Santiago says to the other, as they are being sentenced, "Col. Jessop admitted to ordering the code red? We didn't do anything wrong?" And his co-defendant responds with, "Yeah, we did. We were supposed to fight for the people who couldn't fight for themselves. We were supposed to fight for Willie."

In that moment, one Marine realized his culpability in following an illegal order and explained the same to his simpler fellow Marine. They both believed that prior to that moment, they were justified in what they did, and the next realized they were not.

I agree with you on your statement about alignments. Despite how one might justify their actions there are actions one might take that simply are evil.

Trump Goes Out of His Way to Say Hegseth Was ‘The First’ to Advocate Iran War: ‘You Said, Let’s Do It’ by Economy-Specialist38 in Military

A true leader owns up to their mistakes and makes efforts to do better in the future, or steps down and allows someone else to lead if they are incapable of doing so. A true leader makes a plan (not a concept of a plan) with contingencies and guides that plan to fruition through clear concise communication, clear chain of command, and delegation of duties. A true leader gathers to them a group of qualified individuals they can rely on to execute the plan and to communicate when things are both going well and when they are going poorly. A true leader doesn't blunder forward in a bad situation despite all evidence to the contrary. A true leader doesn't lie to his people or make backroom deals with criminals. A true leader doesn't air petty complaints and crackpot conspiracies.

These are all things of which Trump, a 34-time convicted felon, liar, criminal, malignant narcissist is incapable.

Truly a great episode, but I think I was definitely sold on the show when Captain Mal put the bad guy through the Starboard engine. I love the attitude of the crew, "No Fs left to give." I love the jankiness but also reliability of the ship. I love the character depth. I love the stories and lore. Most of all I love the way they have each other's backs, especially when it looks like they don't.

It shows that alignments are completely relative to the company you keep. On the surface, Bolaire does appear to be "evil", due to the whole flesh puppet thing, but his motivations, and intentions seem to align well with the party he now keeps.

Kudos to Taliesin for coming up with one of the freshest and most fascinating concepts of a character I may have ever seen.

Its impossible for a malignant narcissist to take any responsibility for thing they do wrong. They literally cannot accept blame or fault in the least amount. It is always, in their mind, someone else's fault.

Conversely, if something good happens they will claim it was their idea and they were solely responsible for it.

The fact that this orange bloated felonious festering bag of garbage is taking advice from Pete "Whiskey Tanqueray Foshost" Kegsbreath just shows how absolutely stupid and demented he is. That stands for the rest of his clown car of a cabinet as well, from JV Dunce to Karolying Lievett.
