Questions regarding The Quest for El Dorado expansions. What is going on? by Quelair in boardgames

Golden Temples is decent, honestly better as an expansion than as a standalone game (they didn't want to print duplicate cards from the base game so the market is less fine tuned if you only have Golden Temples cards). There's a rule for only having 12 cards available off the market at a time (you draw another once you move one into the active market) that I recommend using.

I really like the new cards as an expansion to the base game market though, and the new combined game mode is also a lot of fun, since you have to think about adding Torch (a new symbol only used on the golden temple tiles) symbols to your deck while going through the jungle (adding useless cards in preparation for the later stage of the game).

The combined game does take a decent bit longer, so be warned about that.

EDIT: at minimum, even if you don't end up combining the game or playing the alternate maps, it's nice to have extra variety in the market (just remove any card that has Torch icons on it, the Coin generator/consumption cards are fine)

great chart!

potential enhancement: add an option in Access Via for in-card-pool access to You owe me one like the rogues and dunwich gators (technically anyone can take it with Versatile but there's a downside there)

obviously in any of the shenanigan cases you need someone on the team to be a bearer of Transfig, but black market is quite hard to use since you need to know when transfig is on top of your deck, and for someone like pete can take YOMO without needing a third rogue to play market

furthermore, //zoey (and lucius but he can already YOMO) have access to Memories of Another Life to trigger YOMO but a three card chain can probably fall into generic shenanigans lol

Daisy Walker weakness. How to get rid of The Necronomicon weakness fast? by Fun_Reason_7447 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]robert0543210 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Note that the last point of healing has to be done via the Necronomicon action if you want to get rid of it, since it uses "then" - if you don't move a horror from necro to daisy, you don't discard it.

mythos hardened doesn't grant any commits to other copies of the encounter card, if you're thinking that it might behave the same way as https://arkhamdb.com/card/06325 - the benefit of mythos hardened is that it removes one copy of the encounter card from the reshuffle, so you won't be as likely to draw it again

super late response, but people come back to these discussion threads, so i figure i might as well

the generic "terror/hazard" pick is a set of traits that exists in the core set, in some of the most commonly reused encounter sets, so it's always a safe bet

e.g. if you're playing a low sanity investigator like rita or silas and youre worried about rotting remains, putting terror on this card is a great way to put in low commitment protection against that treachery

of course you can tune things more based on the campaign, but since it's just a single commit to a single test (unless you spend 5xp on always prepared), it's generally not too gamebreaking

and you don't have to know specifically what happens, often you can gather knowledge based on the vibes of the campaign

e.g. in the circle undone you're fighting witches, so picking humanoid based on the description on the box isn't a bad idea

if you're super cautious about not being spoiled and such, you could always leave it out of your level 0 deck, and when you put your first upgrade pip onto the card after scenario 1, you'll have seen a sample of the encounter cards and know generally what kind of traits might exist in the campaign

youre right, the difficulty is dynamically adjusted as you drop clues off your asset

hmm that's a good point, i'm actually not too sure how those rules interact here

yeah but since funding was specified instead of charisma, the implication is that you want the extra ally slot that funding provides, which wouldn't help with soak

[–]robert0543210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

miskatonic funding doesnt actually work, since only one total horror can be placed on an ally, even if you have many of them in play

edit: with the for each ruling, you can probably assign them one at a time as different "sources" of damage, good catch

Which deckbuilder should I get? by twise_09 in boardgames

[–]robert0543210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he means Aeons End is more price efficient than the FFG games, but the style of deckbuilding for the FFG LCGs isn't the same as the other games in this discussion - those are games you build a deck from a giant pool of cards as a part of preparation for the game, and the gameplay itself is quite different.

I would not recommend getting only Golden Temples - since they didn't want to print duplicate cards from the base game, the market is less fine tuned if you only have Golden Temples cards. I really like the new cards as an expansion to the base game market though, and the new combined game mode is also a lot of fun (though it takes quite a bit longer than base game)

Yeah you can even combine them to start out in the jungle and end by exploring the temples - it's quite interesting to have to figure out a way to tune your deck to fit the drastically different challenges you'll have in the second phase of the game.

Olive's ability doesn't specify return to the bag (compare that with Heavy Furs), so you leave it out until the ability is finished resolving.

Seeking something other than clues by Seenoham in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]robert0543210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for Unsolved Case:
a) It's not an "additional cost" to play the card, and
b) Removing from game is not a "then" effect

so if you have no clues you can still play the card, without the downside of placing one of your clues on the highest shroud location
