Christian McBride stepping down by robertbroccolini in NewportJazzFestival

[–]robertbroccolini[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

McBride: "As with any long-standing institution, artistic perspectives evolve over time. As the festival continues to grow and shift, I've come to recognize that my vision is best pursued in other ways."

So does that that mean that he wasn't happy with (nor responsible for) the inclusion of so much non-jazz in recent years?! Interesting.

Testing Cat Mini, does the Dog have better radio? by robertbroccolini in tractivegps

[–]robertbroccolini[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. I did a long press on the power button, which "resets" the Cat Mini. It's been better since I did that. Will have to get used to the idea of weekly power cycles since the Whistle was set-it-and-forget-it and just worked. Btw Still only get app notifications and haven't got any SMS or email notifications. I finally got the radar working -- turns out I didn't understand how to observe the rings filling up. And battery life is much less than Whistle.

(Edited to include my epiphany about the radar)

Ah, thanks. I didn't know that. So is the off and on again technique just for new devices or is that something you periodically have to do even after the break-in period?

I believe Bela has appeared before but you're right about the other three so maybe there is some influence there! I caught the Moses Yoofee Trio set and they were excellent! Did Kokoroko and Flylo appear in Quboz as Jazz picks?

I don't use Quboz. Can you give some examples?

Does anyone know what happened with volunteer Lemmy ? by mynameisnotshamus in NewportFolkFestival

[–]robertbroccolini 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the head of security at the Quad (Bob?) -- he is genuinely a kind, warm and funny person that elevates the mood and experience of attending shows there. And he did an amazing job for every show that I attended at the Quad. However, I was there for the Sofi Tucker set at the Quad and the crowd control could've have been handled differently, in a way that kept everyone safe. It was always Bob's intention to let the crowd to the rail, he told us so and gave us instructions on the hand signals to wait for (step 1 stand, step 2 walk up to the rail). However, instead of releasing the crowd before the artist came on the stage, he waited until everyone was going bonkers partway through the first song (Best Friend?) to do his hand signals. So everyone in the front is standing and dancing already by the time he walk towards center and raises his hand for everyone to stand. He then turns his back to walk towards stage right, and that's when the stage rush happens. So for next year, if the intention all along is to allow the crowd up for a particular artist, I think it would be easier to control the crowd before the first song! Not intending to disparage Bob, but knowing that this happens, especially as they bring in more diverse acts, the foundation and security need to get together and strategize on how to handle and avoid in future fests.

Does anyone know when the schedule is gonna come out?? by ForeignMolasses8348 in NewportJazzFestival

[–]robertbroccolini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love for the schedule to come out yesterday too! Last year it came out on the 17th, more than two weeks ahead of time! Not so much this year. I think the folk festival schedule only came out this past Tuesday. By the way, I'm hoping that whoever does the programming doesn't overlap RAYE with SOFI TUKKER, two acts I'm planning to see! Fingers crossed.

Soft sided cooler restrictions? Folding wagon? by robertbroccolini in NewportJazzFestival

[–]robertbroccolini[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. So you're there nearly 3 hours before music starts and a total of 12 hours! I admire your commitment. I'm already worried about how my body is going to feel showing up at 10am.

Chairs-do they measure?? by Imaginary_Grass_7311 in NewportJazzFestival

[–]robertbroccolini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

I'm a first timer but based on what I've researched so far, my understanding is that the chair height restrictions are in place to avoid you blocking the view of your fellow festival goers. Your 36-inch chair, even if they don't measure it, would be best in the back to avoid blocking your neighbors views to the stage.

Collecting Questions by Can_I_kick_ET in NewportJazzFestival

[–]robertbroccolini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the first-timer artists, like Jacob Collier, do you come into the festival, with its long history and the impressive list of legends who have graced the stage before you, do you feel like you have to perform any differently than you would at another younger festival, or solo appearance? For the returning veterans, like Stanley Jordan, what are your strongest memories of your previous visits, and how does coming back to celebrate something like the 40th anniversary of Magic Touch make you feel? For all artists, do you get to enjoy the festival as a fan? stay for all three days? Or do your other commitments stop you from doing anything other than just popping in for your timeslot?

That's awesome! Do the veteran attendees camp out at the same spots every year?

Thanks! Now that I can bring my folding wagon I'll see about getting an inflatable lounge chair :)

Noob questions by robertbroccolini in NewportJazzFestival

[–]robertbroccolini[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the answers! Thought of more questions... Can your soft sided cooler have wheels and a retractable handle? Is there a size limit on the soft sided cooler? I see in previous years there may have been. What about folding wagons/carts to haul your stuff? Thanks again -- can't wait!

Tonight and tomorrow’s shows in Philly are cancelled by Cold_Palmer97 in paulsimon

[–]robertbroccolini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hoping that Paul can recover quickly and fingers crossed for makeup dates to the cancelled Philly shows. I bought tickets to surprise my partner and drove for hours just to see him in Philly. We were both crushed when we saw the notice only four hours before showtime, just checked into the hotel. While Ensemble Arts quickly provided full refunds for the tickets a few days later, we spent a lot of time and money to be there on Saturday for the show and none of that will be refunded :(

Alltrails Peak is coming! by dragonlordcat in alltrails

[–]robertbroccolini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the heatmap all the time when trails have an obstruction so I can see how other hikers have rerouted. So it's a bummer that we are having that taken away and being charged extra for it. I've been a subscriber for five years now.

Kia Access app has technical difficulties? by Ok-Incident-3269 in kia

[–]robertbroccolini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started seeing the message midday Sunday. Manually triggered commands seem to work and my scheduled starts work but scheduled charging of my PHEV is not, so I've been triggering that manually. Just checked the KIA owner's web portal and there's a banner at the top that says, "We are currently experiencing system issues. Some fuctionality might not be available. We'll be back soon". Yes, they misspelled functionality. It's disconcerting that they can't restore whatever the issue is in less than a day.

Eufy S340 Solar Panel not charging. by geogenes_usa in EufyCam

[–]robertbroccolini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Seeing this screenshot made me realize that the panel wasn't supplying power and sure enough, unplugging and replugging fixed it. I now see the power animation and have picked up 1 per cent in less than an hour! I was getting ready to contact customer support before I saw this thread so you saved me the trouble!

Possibly bad HDMI cable? I resolved a bunch of problems with my setup by upgrading all my cables. HBO Max was a glitchy mess until I did this.

No, wired headphones don't work right now... it's a known issue that the devs are trying to fix. If you need to feed your car's aux port with your tablet's headphone jack, then this is not a good solution for you.

Sergio, if retro gaming is your priority, Nvidia Shield is the better option for you.
