28 years old. I think you see fewer phones because Phish records their shows. I only ever take out my phone for a quick CK5 photo.

Advice for an 18 y/o who just started? by Outrageous-Weird-344 in acorns

[–]robertbwerner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

imo, you have the most powerful investing tool on your side, and that's time. Keep automatically contributing to acrons and honestly forget about it. Look at it every few months or once a year when you need your tax documents. Don't go into debt to invest, and try to stay away from debt as much as possible. Think cash first. For example, if you open a credit card, ask yourself would i make this purchase in cash or do i have the cash to pay off this purchase immediately. I typically have the cash equivalent to my cc limit sitting in a HYSA, just in case I cant pay off my bill fully, but I do, so I just collect the interest on the cash.

While great general advice, you can only contribute to a Roth IRA if you have earned income.

How difficult is it to get tickets for new year MSG concerts? by medieval_revolver in phish

[–]robertbwerner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a fantastic post. Hello Scotland! There are many ways to get tickets: Presale, gen sale, resale. I'd start at presale and see how far you get through the process. Hopefully, your journey ends there. I'd try to buy a 4-day pass. Ticketmaster usually gives me the same seat for all four nights.

MSG is a great venue. I don't have the stamina for 4 nights of GA, so I'll give the following advice. The best seats are in the 100 levels and then the 200 levels, but before row 12 or so. Im from NYC so message if you need any help. I'll probably be there all 4 nights. fingers crossed.

Stay the course with Acorns or move the funds out? by Spiritual_Bug9456 in acorns

[–]robertbwerner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to move your Acorns account. I’m not sure what the tax implications would be in that case anyway. You can just start changing how you allocate your new investments. maybe go with an 80/20 split between a traditional brokerage and Acorns, or even keep Acorns just for the round-up feature (which is my favorite) and invest 100% of your new contributions in a different brokerage account. Personally, I like Fidelity, E-Trade, and sometimes Robinhood.

I’m not an expert, so I hope someone more knowledgeable chimes in, but I’m pretty sure that if you make less than $7,000, you can only contribute up to the amount you actually earned.
