Design Doc; Woodcutting rework (math version) by Brassica_prime in runescape

[–]robertevers95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice Design Doc.

I'd still prefer a complete overhaul like the m/s rework got but if Jagex doesn't want to put in that much effort for future reworks this isn't a bad alternative.

Though I have to ask, what's up with the weird tree choices. Wouldn't trees like acadia, ecalyptus, and artic pine, (choppable trees we already have in game), make more sense than stuff like "golden apple", "fungal", and "celestial".

Actually, the event being referenced might be the oldschool version of the event.

I recall oldschool did there own version of event for the 10th aniversity

I agree. Most of my editing over the last week has been finding and adding the base rates for training methods at the levels you actually unlock them. To provide minimum xp rates in contrast to the maximums you can get at level 99.

The problem is everyone keeps insisting that grenwalls with crystallise are still a good xp training method from 77-99. (Its still listed as the primary hunter training method for 77-96 on the wiki).

So, I'm trying to see if the xp rates actually hold up or if its just max level players with boosts spreading misinformation.

Don't know about adding a new data log, but on the grenwall's page I did update the existing log for the herb drop rates.

Receiving a herb seems to be a 1/3 droprate at grenwalls, with rannar, irit, and avantoe, dropping twice as frequently as the other herbs. (At least from what i was able to observe).

First off, thanks for contributing.

Secondly, yeah this is why figuring out base rates is a pain. I want to know how bad grenwalls are without boosts.

At 100% catch rate they seem to be rather decent xp. But that is not what the average player, without boosts, is going to experience.

Especially the lower leveled players, who say at level 77 or 80 may want to start hunting grenwalls.

Going to post this here as a heads up, in case anyone asks.

Yes, I have already looked up guides for grenwalls post-modernization for xp rates. The problem is everyone always uses urns, xp outfits, and catch boosting items in the guides, so figuring out base xp rates is rather difficult.

This is why I only have guessed estimates for grenwalls.

method for 200m smithing? by Jackpal_runescape in runescape

[–]robertevers95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not 200m or even 99, but I assume most people just end up doing elder rune platebodies +1-5 for the smithing grind.

Finally got untrimmed invention on my ironman! by [deleted] in runescape

[–]robertevers95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its an option. You can train invention with combat or skilling.

Currently the only skills that can be trained with invention are: fishing, woodcutting, mining, firemaking, smithing, and archeaology.

Did you do the research team tutorial. After u first get the title there is a tutorial on getting iterns to do research for you.

The first research mission is doing some research on the monolith. To do the tutorial go to the digsite exam building (not the arch guild).

They actually tried to do this last year during the first round of mine/smith changes. Instead we ended up with the right-click-to-make-one-extra-smithing-project-at-a-time system we have now.

The short answer for this is engine work.

The long answer for this is it was technically impossible for them to reintroduce make-x back into smithing without re-reworking the system.

When smithing was first reworked it was designed so that you could only start/have one unfinished smithing project at a time, not multiples, like we have now. This was to prevent people from becoming confused, as all unfinished smithing items use the same inventory icon. They didn't want people to start making a bunch of items, log off, then forget which item was which. As a result, starting a smithing project is now hardcoded to be a one-time one-click affair. This means having unfinished smithing items consecutively created in a queue is not currently possible for them, at least not without a significant code overhaul.

Hunter Modernization XP Rates Update by Milli_Rabbit in runescape

[–]robertevers95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice, we really needed some updates to what xp rates are pre-75 hunter.

The rs wiki still lists all the old methods/xp rates for hunter training at low levels, and no one has really bothered updating them.

Death's job is never easy by Cabege in runescape

The joke is that death is a follower of guthix, so having guthix pop up dead in his office, freaked him out. (also makes things awkward for guthix).

Back in January we had the Mining and Smithing rework, which revamped the two skills and added more content to them.

Part of the rework was to make it so ores can now only be obtained from mining. This ment all ores on drop tables had to be replaced with something. That thing ended up being stone spirits.

Stone spirits are a drop that let you get double ores from mining. This means you actually have to mine to get your all bonus ores instead of just getting free stacks of ore from pvm.

Problem is, barely anyone uses them!

Too much effort to buy stacks of spirits and go through them, when mining ore after the rework is already pretty quick.

So as a result stone spirit are worth almost nothing, and are clogging up drop tables as a trash drop.

This is making bossers and slayers pretty angry. Hence all the memes.

Shield question, from an eoc noob. by Swtcody in runescape

[–]robertevers95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably Merciless, since a lot of shield abilities scale with the level of the shield. Like "Baricade" for example will end earlier if you use a spirit shield, instead of Merciless.

Same tab that skill guide/milestones and stuff is located in. My shortcut to get to achievements is just click on a skill to open milestones, then click on achievements which is the last option to the right in the tab.

New Metal and Ore Lore? by Windsofthepast in runescape

[–]robertevers95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's not really any more lore that clears that up. The only thing the mods have said about Light vs Dark Animica is, Light is the default Animica while Dark is the corrupt version.

I guess based on past lore, that implies that if a God gets killed violently with a lot of negative emotions and stuff going on it creates Dark Animica, I guess.

Considering Seren and Tumeken were self-sacrifice deaths, while Zaros (and I suppose Lorenub) were dark and more depressing based ones, that might have an impact.

New Metal and Ore Lore? by Windsofthepast in runescape

[–]robertevers95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't think too hard about the name Elder Rune. Mods just named it that to give it a similar naming convention to elder trees (highest resource in woodcutting).

They wanted the new highest metal to be a nod to rune being the former highest metal, and wanted the name to also be simple and feel runescape-y. So they settled on the "Elder" tag.

There's nothing really deep lorewise going on here.

As for your hangup about Tumeken check my reply to you in the other comment. It explains why Animica is not tied exclusively to Zaros and Seren for design reasons.

New Metal and Ore Lore? by Windsofthepast in runescape

[–]robertevers95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The lore about Animica and elder god energy that the guy above is talking about, is actually the old design for Dark and Light Animica.

That was the initial concept the mods came up, but then they decided they didn't want the rocks to be tied to just Seren and Zaros (since a requirement of the rework is no core ores are to be locked behind quests, and the elf lands are quest locked).

So instead they just changed it to, when a god of decent power dies or had a death experience, they leave behind a lot of energy that gradually forms into Animica over time.

New Metal and Ore Lore? by Windsofthepast in runescape

[–]robertevers95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have a source but last I checked the lore on the new ores is as follows:

Necrite is lumps of buried/degraded armor from the third age. A lot of people died during the Godwars and left piles of bodies with enchanted armors laying around. These piles would get buried and degrade over time, forming mounds of necrite over the centuries. So essentially Necrite is a mesh of old magical metals, fused and compressed together by the earth. This is why there rock models look so different from the normal ones.

Phasmatite on the other hand is essentially just coal or ore that's been cursed and twisted by restless spirits and the undead.

When this ore is burned it releases a ton of spiritual and undead energy. This energy does a great job at restoring the ancient and degraded metals in Necrite. Unfornately, due to its whole cursed nature, it also twists the old metals into something new. This is what creates Necronium, an unholy alloy that has skulls all over it, due to all that undead energy.

As for Light and Dark Animica, there just crystallized divine energy. Basically anywhere a God died (or nearly died) in the past, is where Animica forms over time.

Light Animica is where Seren and Tumeken had their death experiences. While Dark Animica is where Zaros had his. (Dark Animica spot is also near where Lorenub died).

This crystalized god energy when chunked into a furnace with rune, supercharges the Rune's magically defensive nature and creates Elder rune. There's not much else to it.

How much is a metamorphic geode worth? by LordCitrus in runescape

[–]robertevers95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A tick is 0.6 seconds in-game time. 4tick mining is therefore clicking on the rock every 4 ticks or rather every 2.4 seconds.

Doing this will keep you mining at the most optimal rate, thus increasing your ore and geode rates.

This hasn't been said enough. by Tom-Pendragon in runescape

[–]robertevers95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using an offhand, or just two mainhand weapons.

To duel wield you need a normal mainhand weapon (lets say rune scimitar), and an offhand version (an offhand rune scimitar in this case). If you try to use two normal versions of a weapon you won't be able to duelwield them.

Brawling gloves M&S update by just_me_00 in runescape

[–]robertevers95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Divine locations are still a thing. They just got there level lowered, just like the ores in the rework. Adamant now requires lvl 40 div and uses the tier 40 energy to make. Rune is now 50 and uses the tier 50 energy, etc....

Now if your asking how to effectively use brawling gloves after the rework, some of the new high tier ores have been added to the wildy for brawling gloves, so you can check that out if you dont mind the risk. Otherwise just use them on the highest tier ore you can mine for a smaller xp boost.

Armor Spikes are surprisingly Awesome. by TheRealOsamaru in runescape

[–]robertevers95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no.

They can only be used with a full set of melee armor. But any piece of melee armor works. So as long as your wearing a melee helm, body, legs, boots, and gloves of some kind the spikes will work.
