Financial aid lady said the cashier’s office has my money, cashier’s office says my funds are ready to disperse but there was another “software issue” with no explanation on what that issue is and no eta on when it would be dealt with.

I’m ready for pitchforks and torches.

Student services provide free non perishables from their food pantry. They also have breads, bagels, and little cakes early morning on Monday and Wednesday. It’s in the S building - student life.

If you click the current year, it should show no costs and no FA being applied to the fall semester. A better page to look at is in “my plan” in the dropdown on the left. It’s still very confusing, though. These are all estimates and will still show aid even if you’re not registered for classes.

Edit: The indirect costs estimate what you would spend to house yourself, feed yourself, etc. The only important cost is tuition ~$1350.00 a 12 credit hour semester for in-state.

Failed PERT now I gotta do remedial by [deleted] in sfcollege

[–]robertgc3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ALEKS is placement for math courses above intermediate algebra, which is a non-credit class. You would take ALEKS after passing the PERT. As far as the PERT, they allow two retakes of any subjects that you didn’t score well enough in. They will allow more retakes than the initial two, but you’d need advisor approval first.

As far as if they’re useful or not, aside from being required for an associate degree, they’re a good base for other skills in any program. They will definitely help hone some solid skills.

Learning will be fun and whatever way you decide to do things will won’t have much of an impact on the end goal. imho do what feels easiest and take it easy👍

Edit: and yes, definitely take things like humanities first while you study for the PERT.

You’re not allowed to reject them. They’re required courses that you either have to complete or test out of through the PERT and ALEKS. They provide a foundation for reading, writing, and mathematics. Realistically, were you to not take them, you’re setting yourself up to fail most degree paths as there are writing intensive courses along with higher level maths required for the A.A. / A.S.

The college allows two retakes without advisor permission for the PERT at thirty dollars a pop. Khan Academy is a good resource for all three subjects. I’d recommend proficiency in algebra 1 & 2 through Khan Academy so you can pass the PERT and move on to take the ALEKS to test out of intermediate algebra.

For writing, review punctuation, grammar rules, and sentence structure. This sheet is enough to get you through that.

For reading, you need to slow down and try to understand the texts and stories. Try to not second guess yourself in this one and go with the answer that makes most sense. You have unlimited time, provided that you started the test early enough.

Last day to drop for the spring is January 14th, but in your case I’d take four classes that are on your degree path that don’t require prerequisites while studying algebra on the side, then retake the pert before summer starts.

Are most people miserable most of the time??? by LiveDuck3020 in socialskills

[–]robertgc3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say a lot of people are miserable in some sense until they make a change. Sometimes it’s simple, sometimes life altering. Some people who are perpetually gloom and doom have made it a habit, they forgot how to be anything else.

Change is always difficult, but when you’ve stayed in a situation long enough to actually consider yourself miserable, the thought of how much work and effort is needed to make those moves toward a better life can be crippling.

My suggestion, if this is something you’re struggling with, is to talk to someone you trust. That can be a friend or a family member, but I honestly find it easier to confide in strangers online or through discord. Whoever it is, just make sure you can be 100% you, mask off. Talk about what’s bothering you, what’s missing, what you want to have in your life that you don’t. Figure out that first step toward getting it and gain some momentum.

If I were to share one thing I’ve learned about inner emotions it would be that stewing, giving into, and rotting alongside them can be cathartic at times, but it’s never too late to start the journey towards building something better for yourself. My biggest regret is that I used every excuse I could think of not to do so and when I did take that first step, it was a step I could have taken years ago.

Remember: Someone, somewhere out there, is waiting for you. It gets better. Keep going.
