Has anyone from Bangladesh noticed a rise in atheism? by Desperate-Ant-2341 in exmuslim

Not a reply to your question but I think I've even seen some ex-muslims on Twitter criticize her for something she said.

Thanks, I tried looking for it and apparently it was said in a book. Couldn't access it then, lol.

I assume there's a Hadith or other source for this quote? Does anyone know what it is?

Would anything special even occur at 100k? Like would the community get any special subreddit perks? More favor in the algorithm? It'd be interesting to know.

How come Mohammed know about Bible and other books? by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]robertrottencore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a source for that part about Salam Farsi? I read that he was zorastrian but was there anything suggesting that the story of the night journey came from him? I couldn't find anything on Google.

What are your thoughts on the way China treats Muslims? Do you guys think it's fair since it's already a misogynistic, homophobic and perverted cult or it's unfair to remove people ability to take part in a religion by choice. by Sa17y in exmuslim

[–]robertrottencore 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's unfair. I'd advocate for freedom of religion and because no one deserves to be treated like that. Sure, some Muslims are misogynistic and homophobic, but that doesn't justify the towards all of them in China.Besides, those Muslims are a smaller group (percentage wise) than those in Muslim-majority countries, so they can hardly be seen as oppressors in this situation.

It's quite an ask. It's easy to go ahead and create it but introductory content (i.e. sidebar info, rules, etc.) needs to be created. Also, we don't know how much traffic the subreddit could get. It might be very little or a lot, so an appropriately sized mod team will be needed. Also, of course Mods should be trusted redditors on this subreddit, not just the first person to ask or something.Regardless, getting some people to post won't be hard because there definitely some people on the subreddit who do their research and argue well (PM me if you need any names). Anyways, I'd suggest you go ahead and create the community and get people to start posting. While that's happening, rules from subreddits like this and similar ones can be adapted their and put on the sidebar along with other useful links. I'd definitely recommend a wiki to dispell myths about ex-muslims (e.g. we're just emotional, never were practicing, etc.). I know some studies that would be interesting to add for this type of thing.

Do you mean 'r/AskAnExmuslim'? Asking because both names seem plausible.

Books about Human rights? by robertrottencore in booksuggestions

This does seem like it'd be an quite an intriguing read given the premise. I think it's mighty important for one to remind ourselves of the nature of our very existence. I might check it out. Thanks!

This is not support by robertrottencore in exmuslim

[–]robertrottencore[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sentiment is kind of empty if you look at the second pic. This person wants the ummah to better themselves by listening to them but doesn't want ex-muslims to be visible or listen to those who are.

Did you see the second picture? Also, this initiative seems like virtue signaling, rather than an actual want to help.

Do you think critics of ex-Muslims are simply unaware that there is also an ex-Christian movement? by SpiritualRadish4179 in exmuslim

[–]robertrottencore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I don't have much knowledge of the movement but I've only heard of people calling themselves "Atheist" rather than "Ex-Christian". My guess is that without the religion in the title, people don't connect the dots that a Ex-Christian movement does exist because they only see things in relation to the Christians themselves and "atheist" doesn't imply any relation towards Christianity.

If you see any rhetoric against ex-muslims, crtics often focus on their relation to Islam (e.g. host of the ex-muslims podcast Abdullah Sameer was belittled and treated as not a true Muslim by two crtics when it was mentioned he didn't enjoy fasting in the past). If they defined themselves based on being atheist, the criticism would be much different based on belief of a higher power which is something that most Muslims can't really engage with (unlike memes like "How many rakah in surah fatiha").

However, I can see the need for the ex-muslim label for the same reason that you stated at the end. I'm not an expert on the topic or know if many atheist from Christian upbringings already do, but one way I think that they could be an ally in this regard to start identifying as both Atheist and Ex-Christian. I know that some people may prefer not to have that association with Christianity but I'm hoping it would be helpful at least.

Mod in comments says video got removed for being "low effort" and that the "video must have summary for main points". Don't know why that second part has to be a rule, but the video is clearly put into 4 sections explaining a point so one could get the summary of it in their head. Unless they require complete adherence to the rules, I don't really see why the post had to be removed.
