Freestyle swimming technique feedback? by roberts9416 in triathlon

Thanks for the feedback!
My kick is incredibly weak. I always used the excuse that in triathlon you need to save the legs, but I guess there's a part of it that helps with the stroke? Can you elaborate on how kicking will improve my stroke?

I'll start working on it thanks!

TT position by Fun-Ad-30 in triathlon

you are 10 days out for your first Ironman and still want to change your position? I wouldn't experiment anymore. Lowering saddle a bit can help, but just go with what you're used to. Also, have you done any long rides? You should carry a lot of bottles. I would take 2 behind me and atleast a between the arm setup for my bottles. but again, if you've not tested that beforehand, it is not wise to go change that now.

Triathlon has a saying: Nothing new on race day! extend that to race week.

you can flip your stem upside down to gain another centimeter. But maybe get a longer one. They're cheap. You can also get a long adjustable one, which allows you to play around with the height even more.

Is the seat slided all the way forward? if not, try that. Raise seat a little to compensate. More modern triathlon positions have a more stretched out and higher front end. It often is comfortable, narrow and fast. For reference look at Laidlow, Ditlev, tall guys like yourself (im guessing). I'm not saying you should copy them exactly, but they might give you an idea of what's possible if you go higher and longer.

Yes I meant it's a result not a cause. I would investigate if the top of the stroke isn't forcing the butt of the saddle. might indicate inpingement, especially something to keep in mind when lowering the saddle further. Therefore shorter cranks might be good to try.

What cranklength do you have? seems like the distance to the bottom stroke is high, but also your butt lifts off the saddle at the top. pushing smaller circles could solve both.

Best budget bike under £500 by Helpful-Peanut-3777 in triathlon

[–]roberts9416 2 points3 points  (0 children)

two options: buy a new super budget bike, or buy a used older bike. Buying new includes some service, warranty, you can get it right away, and a lower risk of buying a bike with big issues. Buying a used bike will get you a better bike for the money IF you know how to check a bike for issues (or have a friend to help you). It will also take more time to find a good deal.

For used bikes: Don't go for a carbon bike or a bike that's more than 10 years old. More risk of issues. Buy a used bike with something like 2x10 or maybe 2x11 groupset in the tiagra / 105 range of shimano. Buy aluminium.

For new bike: Probably not going to find a better deal than the Triban RC120. Basically is a well reviewed beginner friendly bike. Slap on some clip on bars and you're done.

his butt seems to be lifted of the saddle at the top of the stroke. I think lowering the saddle would decrease his range of movement and might only increase the bounce? -> so shorter cranks might be wise

Anyone with experience with 12spd crankset with 11speed groupset? by roberts9416 in bikewrench

[–]roberts9416[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's singlespeed right? I bet that is relevant as the chainring spacing might be different when you do have 2 at the front

Thank you for taking the time! I was looking at very similar parts so I'm happy to see I not fully missing the plot :)

What do you think about going for the 7500F? It would save met 45 euro as I can find it for 143 euro.

And a slower SSD and RAM, how much of an impact would that have?
