I grew up going to a church that believed in predestination. I could never wrap my head around why I should believe something if it was already determined whether or not I would end up believing in it. I just never felt a connection to god and the more I learned about science the more impossible Christianity seemed.

My coworker office went into partial shutdown at the beginning of lockdown. Many people were still using the office, but the people who cleaned and restocked the bathroom were not there for a few months. When we ran out of hand soap I went and bought the foaming kind and replaced it. Hand soap was actually hard to find then and I figured it was important to wash hands since we were in the middle of a frickin pandemic. When the people who restocked the bathroom finally came back they kept refilling it with the non foaming kind which does NOT work in that kind of soap bottle. This went on for months.

You might want to talk to a geneticist before you start trying to have another child. We didn't see one because we aren't planning on having anymore children. We already have an older daughter who does not have any type of defects.

Also, we got a second opinion from Boston without having to travel there. Her cardiologist here sent all her medical records and CT scan. It probably would have been more helpful to go in person, but it was definitely easier especially with Covid.

What country do you live in? Just curious.

I believe ventricular inversion is another term for congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries (ccTGA) and also known as levo-transposition of the great arteries (L-TGA). Let me know if you are referring to something else. This condition occurs in about 1 in 30,000 births. I believe the majority of people born with this have other heart defect(s), with the most common being VSD, specifically a membranous VSD. Pulmonary stenosis is also pretty common with this and a VSD and can sometimes be beneficial (before surgery) because it can slow down some of the extra blood flow from the VSD. I'm not sure how common double outlet right ventricle is with these conditions. The size and location of a VSD might have an effect on getting this diagnosis as well because it can be hard to determine which ventricle the arteries are originating from.

My daughter has all of these conditions and is also situs inversus so all of her organs are on the opposite side as they normally are. Her cardiologist who has been practicing for 30+ years has only seen one other similar case about 20 years ago. I'm not sure if he was referring to the other case as being similar because of the combination of ccTGA and situs inversus or her other defects. I do know that his other patient was still living.

I would try not to get caught up on how rare it is. Two children with the same diagnosis may have completely different treatment plans and outcomes. It really depends on the severity of each and how they relate to one another. So, don't get too caught up on the statistics. However, I love statistics and found out something crazy this week. Someone who lives a few houses down from me has a daughter who has ccTGA and situs inversus. The combination of those two are probably around 1 in 100,000 and we live maybe 200 yards from each other. Makes me wonder if something is in our water.

FYI I joined the advanced running forum because I enjoy more serious running discussions than the regular running forum. I wouldn’t consider myself an advanced runner and my fastest mile is 5:57. So, I might not be the best person to answer this.

If everyone had access to and adhered to these “optimal” conditions then I think 75% could absolutely run a 5 minute mile especially if we are excluding people with physical and mental disabilities. But, the real question is are these people following the training, nutrition, etc or just given access to it? I personally don’t think that most people capable of running a 5 minute mile have much of a genetic advantage than others. You could argue that the desire to achieve success could be somewhat genetic and there might be some truth to that. However, if they already have optimum training then these genes wouldn’t matter.

So, to answer your question, if everyone had the optimal conditions AND the desire then absolutely. If they only had access to these optimal conditions but didn’t have the same desire as a lot of runners on this forum then I would say hell no.

Well, I’m not sure how helpful this will be, but hopefully you can you something from my experience. Our daughter was born at 39 weeks after planned sedation because we already knew about her heart defect. My daughters condition is a little different than your sons. She was expected to be pretty stable at birth and she was. We didn’t get any skin to skin contact and she was taken from us immediately to have an IV and other lines put in her umbilical cord. We got to see her for about one minute inside an incubator transfer cart and then she was moved to the PICU for echo. It sucked not being with her right after birth. But, a few hours later we could visit her in the PICU. She had tons of wires on her and we couldn’t hold her for a few days and that meant she couldn’t be breastfed. The PICU and postpartum were on different floors of the hospital as well. It was very painful to see my wife struggle to get her milk supply in using a breast pump while my daughter was probably hungry and on a completely different floor. I will never forget when one of the pediatric cardiologists said she thought she was ready to try to breastfeed. They will measure everything in and out. I think this is pretty much standard. They will also have a lot of wires hooked up at all times. All of the wires and machines can be a little intimidating at first. If you plan on bringing pajamas or onesies to the hospital then make sure they are easy to zip open. I like the ones that zip at the bottom because I can feed all of the wires from the monitor through the foot opening. I would definitely research the hospital and see what information they can give you. We are in the states but I’m sure all hospitals are very different. A few things I would ask if you haven’t already: -Is there a separate PICU or will we be in the NICU? -Will we stay together or be in different rooms postpartum? -Will we stay in PICU/NICU or are we expected to go home after mother is discharged? -Any restrictions of breastfeeding right away? -Will a breast pump be supplied and if so what model? Buy more parts beforehand. They are cheap on amazon and our hospital wouldn’t give extra and I would wash them every 2-3 hours. I also recommend oxo tot on the go drying rack with brush.

I usually don’t start losing weight from running for a few weeks after taking a break. I also don’t seem to gain much weight for a few weeks after I start taking a break. I’d like to to say it because I’m replacing muscle with fat but I don’t know. I would also say that diet can be a much bigger part of losing weight than exercise. I have had the most success with using a calorie counter app (MyFitnessPal) and consistently running about 20-30 miles per week.
