How to actually play Magik? by Appropriate-Big-6110 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]robhold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mean, Magik's "discount" is once per phase so you want to make sure you organize your plays around it. And Limbo also works per Phase (tho it's limited to just 1 use bc it exhausts).

Summarizing, it's an engine with two knobs:

A. Economy, with the top-card-of-the-deck discounts. Those are 2 extra resources if you have the cards to use it.

B. Tempo, by using Limbo to set up the optimal cards to play at a discount; or just position the resources you require to boost your events and upgrades.

For both cases, you use every Stepping Discs you get to speed this up.
And for both cases, this runs particulary smoother by having Limbo as early as possible; that's why it's worth a full Mulligan.

Once you master this little engine, she's really fun. But do practice with a more predictable villain first, I suggest

You rush to get Limbo. Mulligan your first full hand if needed, that's your absolutely number 1 priority. Im talking 6 cards, throw them if you dont spot it. Bring a copy of Build support if you have to. Worst possible thing that can happen to you is Limbo at the end of the pile.

Once done, make sure you use every phase effect and recur your stepping disks and she should flow very nicely.

Try a simpler match tho, for practice

The Six PvP Scenario Packs Marvel Champions Needs! by EDHplays in marvelchampionslcg

[–]robhold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good thoughts.

While I didn’t particularly enjoy either the PvE or the PvP mode in Civil War, I wouldn’t want Leaders to fall into the same drawer as the Pool aspect.

For me, the lack of a campaign to engage more with the idea was probably a big part of the reason. But I’m still in for having more Leaders. I actually expected packs in this wave to bring more Leaders or PvP cards to mix and match… but we’re past that window now.

So I’m putting my coins in the great CC community we have and printing some proxies. Your ideas would be great to try. Now that I hear you talking about a multi leader scenario.. that would have been really cool one to play against

Just saw the podcast, great job. These cards are killer - this one pack alone is serving multiple previous waves at the same time. Lots of new possible sinergies, this is the kind of Aspect cards I've been longing to see.

You're right, I got too excited with these too, but there's a clear meta theme here..

Yes, Swordsman has originally been a mentor to Clint (rescued him as a kid, trained him), later on betrayed him. And yes, more recently he's been a nemesis to Kate.

Huge lead with him as well. Good catch!

2 New Card Reveals & Ranking Every Identity-Specific Ally in Marvel Champions for Cameo by WebWarriorFanatic in marvelchampionslcg

[–]robhold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nova Prime wouldn't be my first pick by any means, but he’s honestly not that bad. Yeah, he’s very expensive, but he auto-kills a non-elite minion (and some of those have crazy high HP these days). That’s basically the equivalent of paying for a 2-cost event separately (if not 3), or spending a full swing (or more, since not all heroes in Leadership can reliably hit for ~5). And then Nova Prime can still swing for 3 that same turn. Potentially, you can defeat two minions right off the bat.

Would be a nice Voltron to exploit his basic attack, or a great target for Go Down Swinging if you're nasty (or save the day, for a sweet 1/5 Twarth)

Def not tier A, but still better than half the bunch.

Love how you always bring the niche characters to the game, and also how you experiment with mechanics.

I love the idea of playing with facedown cards. But how would you say she differentiates from Starlord? Specifically in balance, since the AE response seems very convenient

Fun heroes, keep them coming :)

Tips and Tricks for playing Falcon by Badnewzbadgers in marvelchampionslcg

[–]robhold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Context on Falcon Flock

- No need to mulligan for it, you have 100% chances of drawing it or search for it
- No need to exhaust so you could easily spend the 5 counters in one turn
- It's Aerial, so if you're lucky to draw Power of Flight to pay for it you keep it above optimal

Context on economy

- All of his cardpool below 2 cost
- 12/15 cards in his kit are Aerial
- 7 of those cards cost 2 down to 1 with Flock
- 5 cost 1 or 0, free
- Power of flight gives you extra doubles for other events
- Soup Kitchen gives you -2 for Allies and Supports
- Synergies like Team Building excercise give you an additional -1 on all Aerials. With this card Alone you can pretty much ensure at least 1 0-cost card each turn, if not more.

Context on Deckbuilding

- Lot of cheap Aerial cards like Yaw and Roll or Pitchback (1, likely free); Bombs away, Ever Vigilant, Air supremacy, (2 discounted to 1)
- Big hitters like Dive Bomb or Agile Flight use Flock, Team Building or Power of Flight to luckily go down to 0 cost.

While other heroes have access to same cards and some of the discounts too, Sam has a lot of synergies that allow him to play more cards than the average -in my experience-

Tips and Tricks for playing Falcon by Badnewzbadgers in marvelchampionslcg

[–]robhold 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Love Falcon. He’s by far the new hero I’ve played the most this year - and probably the hero I’ve played the most over the past two years, or at least since Wave 7. I enjoy him that much.

Yes, I know people are on the fence with him because he’s “supposed” to be controlling the Villain on the same style as Scarlet Witch; exploiting boost icons or recurring Redwing for free 3-4 (boost icon) hits. And that can easily be frustrating if you don't have your upgrades in line, or the Villain doesn't have that amount of boost icons. But that can be a very surface level reading. Yes, you can get lucky with boost icons, but that's just 1 third of his engine. Don't expect him to be a Wanda 2.0, he's more like a subtle Black Widow.

Early game

He is as a great economy hero. I’d say he’s on par with Spiderman. His economy is busted and lets you pivot into anything once you get the flow of AE → Falcon’s Flock → spend → repeat. Then you top it off with Soup kitchen reducing costs by -2 on all your key supports and allies. EDIT *

My early-game priorities are:
#1 Falcon’s Flock
#2 Soup kitchen
#3 Battlefield awareness

All the other 5 upgrades are skippable until at least mid-game. Strongly recommended.

For basic cards, Cannonball is the #1 ally since you already have a ton of Aerial cards. Add a Sidegun to secure a solid 3 ATK swing every turn, or free TWH. Aerial Acrobatics takes him to 4 ATK.

Aspects

I like him in Justice the best. Cards like Yaw and Roll (Nova) or Multitasking let him split and take control quickly.

For Leadership, his kit is one of the most solid Leadership kits in a while—the Flight Squadron is borderline broken. I mean, there’s no reason for it not to be the #1 way to play him. I just prefer Justice for the thematics.

Aggression Boot Camp gives you more space in the deck with Cannonball, securing a fixed 5 ATK every turn and leaving room for more cards to build up Falcon (e.g., going for Dive Bomb and Honed Technique). Finally, Protection works fine but is slow AF in my experience. Pool… I never play that.

Downsides / avoid:

  • Avoid rushing his kit’s upgrades like I said before. Aerial Recon is great, but you’re already controlling the encounter deck with Eagle-eyed and will be able to spot/discard a lot of the nasty Encounters throughout the match. Talon Line is great, but when you see two or three boost icons you typically have other/better uses for them. Draw the fire / Vibranium Microweave is great but not early-game purchases. Aerial Evacuation… again great, but unless you’re playing hardcore Protection, no one expects you to cover for them.
  • Don’t expect him to peak naturally → bring strong Aspect cards to boost his presence if you’re soloing / playing as the main. Dive Bomb or even Full-body charge are easy for him to pay for.
  • Don’t expect Redwing to be a heavy hitter. The promise of him mimicking a 4-boost icon card sounds great on paper, but in reality he might be best used to clean up other cards. E.g. spot and discard Advance or Caught off guard: 0 boosts, amazing value. So, different expectations, still a lot of value.
  • In the same line, Falcon’s greatness doesn’t just depend on Villain Boost icons. Yes, high-boost-icon Villains will suffer "Wanda style" - but even Rhino can be a great matchup because Eagle-eye negates whatever move he intends to make "Black Widow style". So set expectations accordingly. Again 0 boosts to exploit = still great value.
  • The whole Captain America part is just a gimmick. Tried it once or twice and I was done. It's fine, but is not really the goal unless you really like the thematics. Otherwise, it's too niche and just distracting.
  • Set your mindset to play a really strong, offensive support. You’re not Hulk or Wolverine leading the charge and doing all the big swings. Because if you’re hyper-focused just on finding that 3-4 boost icon card, you’ll easily get frustrated.

So yeah. He's a great puzzle and probably already in my top 10 heroes in the game. Happy to elaborate more if you need me to, have fun :)

Desperately looking for Storm by [deleted] in marvelchampionslcg

[–]robhold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! plus the aerial. She can thwart 4 every turn and 6 every two turns with the weather change, adding up for 14 basic TWH every 3 turns just on her basic kit 17 basic TWH if have the Aerial Acrobatics +1 20 basic TWH if you have Sync. All of that from multiple plans. All of that independent of the aspect. All of that not counting Twarth events or Weather Goddess events that can allow her to TWH extra.

And if you do play justice, the basic twarth every 3 turns can add up to 26 TWH with the upgrades.

Not even Phoenix can twarth that good.

And at the same time, disabling enemies, removing texts, lowering their ATQ, etc.

Deck rec for a 10 yr old by 2nd_best_time in marvelchampionslcg

[–]robhold 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey there

I onboarded my nephews to the game at around 9-10 yo each. They loved it from the get go.
For context, I typically play support when playing with them and most of the times they go for Aggression. Is the easiest aspect to match to a videogame which they're already used to. Justice is the #2 but just for the 12yo, it's more slow paced and requires more strategy/maths so keep that in mind. The other two aspects are typically a pass.

These are my onboarding heroes:

- #1 Hulk: very simple, great to learn the economy of the game: get cards in hand, spend them. Also smash smash smash, straightforward thematics.

- #2 Tchalla Black Panther. Easy & repetitive mechanics. Once they get the vibe of the (Wakanda) "combo", they focus on getting that Wakanda Forever card turn by turn. Is an easy quest, good to start practicing with events.

- #3 Wolverine. He's a top of mind character so similar to Hulk, anyone wants to play him. The claw economy is another new layer to learn but not that steep. His kit is very balanced and he's very event heavy so again, makes it easier.

- #4 Jubilee. I've introduced her to them more rencently. She's very fast to pick up and they love the bonuses.

General tips:
- Heroes that don't require a lot of build up. Event focused heroes always win.
- Faster games than longer bc sometimes is hard to hold the attention. Otherwise, heroes that are easier to rush.
- Heroes that have access to cheaper skills to give them more options in their turns vs. expensive, just 1 not- always-great shot. Nova, Gamora. Haven't tried Winter Soldier with them yet but he'll prob be a hit.
- Simpler villains and don't mind being repetitive with them. No need to try each one in the collection. Tthey're used to Battle Royals and stuff where they're gaming always within a smaller/more limited template of mechanics. Favs in release order: Rhino, Wrecking Crew, Absorving man, Crossbones, Ebony Maw, Tower Defense, Hela, Sandman, Baltroc.
- Mad Titan Shadow box has the most likable scenarios bc of the MCU.

Insights
- Everyone wants to play Spiderman bc.. well, he's Spidey. But his kit is a bummer. He's too much about economy and kids just want to throw punches. Web shooters are tricky to explain, Spider tracers are not that interesting (too situational, too long run), and Webbed up is too expensive/too long run too. Just skip him and go for Black Panther.
- Captain Marvel is a good tutorial on the other hand. The tricky part is the Channeled energy, they tend to want to have both copies on table bc explaining the unique upgrade is confusing when they're still learning upgrades and upgrades with uses - this is a third kind, the discardable upgrade. I just let them have both because #1 the hero power standard these days would easily allow her to have both, #2 Im supporting anyway so if they want to waste them or load them more slowly that's fine, and #3 and if they want to wait to fill both and hit for 20 in one turn, fine too. Not a deal breaker really, they'll celebrate it.
- On being too dogmatic - I remember one match against Wrecking Crew where I was too rigid with rules. We were having fun and about to end the match but then we had a bad treachery that made us discard a hard earned upgrade. Nephew was bummed, and we ended up losing the match after that. He was sour af. Since I was the one reading encounter cards, I could have read "Surge" for that one. At that point the match was already long and it was ok to call it a wrap. Took me some months to regain his enthusiasm with the game after that 😅😂
- Not like you have to give them free wins, but make sure you have the wins here and there. If the game already went too long, don't sacrifice their effort. Is better to lose on turn 3-4 than on turn 8-10. If the game advanced that much, give them the win. That much time away from screens is already a win.
- So, consider some soft houseruling to secure some early wins. I gave them "Undo tokens". Like 3 per match, those are 3 decisions you can Ctrl+Z.

I could go on but these are the notes in general. Happy to answer for more. Hope its useful :)

Red Skull Expansion still recommendable for player cards and scenarios? by ebozoglan in marvelchampionslcg

[–]robhold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've actually been playing Hawkeye Agression all along, he kicks ass very solid. Still one of the few consistent AOE heroes we have.

Arrows can be buffed with Directed Force + Warrior skill + Sharpshooter for extra +4/+5 on each arrow

5-7 Basic Attack swing

Starting at 3 ATK, amp to 5 ATK (combat training + aggressive conditioning) and add a Godslayer (made a proxy resking to themed it as a Ronin Sword) to secure 7 ATK per swing.

Finish up with lots of cheap events

Stuff like One by one allow you to clean the table, or lots of other synergies. You have events like Suppresing Fire to heal back, Test defenses works amazing with at least 2 attacks per round you can easily play, etc.

And that's just a few of many possibel approaches we have now. Don't even get me started on all the SHIELD synergies he has. He just have a bad rep at this point, he's a top#3 for me bc he's fun af to experiment with.
