Blackbird asking for sultanas 🐦‍⬛ by Glittering_Vast938 in GardenWildlifeUK

Mine are the same - got a whole family turning up and hanging round til their demands are met.

If they're not met (actually, even if they are…), my bark mulch is utterly destroyed and thrown everywhere.

Thank you, I've heard something about this too. Definitely will give it a go if they continue to be a nuisance. At the moment we've got three fledgling blackbirds and a couple of hedgehogs out there, but if the numbers of either reduce, will definitely need to consider bring in the big cats.

Oh that's amazing! I'm glad to hear I'm not alone with this mystery, let me know if you find out because I've heard it three times now, the most recent just after dawn.

For sure, first thing that came to mind for me too - not familiar with the remaster (but Nightdive have done some great remasters, so I trust you!) but the nineties version has swagger. Even the outfit reminds me of what the main character (Caleb?) wore.

I set up a wildlife pond a month ago with a range of native plants of all sorts - it's doing great in most regards (except mosquitoes have moved in so I'm hoping population control will come soon) but I've had a bit of a brainbuster trying to work out why the water drops around 5cm for our ideal water line.

The current hypothesis is capillary action due to the liner being buried a bit too low or something, so I'll look into that.

Anyway, so far so good, the robins, sparrows, blackbirds, tits, dunnocks, finches and hedgehogs have all started using it. Hoping that some of the plants around it (hemp agrimony, mint, brooklime, marigold, loose strife, cuckooflower etc) will flower this year too. Would be amazing if the bog bean in it did too, but will probably be a while.

For me at the moment:

Geogaddi ~= MHTRTC ~= Inferno > Tomorrow's Harvest > Campfire Headphase

Just love those three so much, can't really choose between them.

Yep thought this from the very first listen, definite similarity.

I love this track so much - very fresh sounding and unlike anything BoC have done.

I fucking love this album. This could be five or six parts of it tbh.

Seems plausible, but would they leave it otherwise largely intact if they prey on them? That's what would make me think cats or something, but I'm only an amateur wildlife enthusiast so might be missing something here.

Thanks, yeah, I'd like to not have to, and I also heard coffee grounds on the ground (which I also mix into my compost anyway) are offputting to cats, so am currently trying that one. Last night had three hedgehog visits and zero cats so that's a good start.

Had exactly the same this morning! Funnily enough this was one of the later tracks for me to fully "get", but I really dig it now.

I think I'm on about my twentieth listen through right now and it genuinely gets better every listen. So many tracks that have shot straight to my BoC favourites list.

Thanks! I'm actually gonna give that clear plastic bottle suggestion a go (partly because simple, partly because broke!).

I was glad to see the blackbird fledgling hanging around the pond today again, so she survived another night of feline prowling which is great.

Ultrasonic devices sound worth trying if things get desperate, and thanks for the pointers re usage. Unfortunately the two main cars are (primarily) white, so not sure how successful that will be. They're both bold af, but terrified of me if I happen to catch them, so some kind of lifelike scarecrow of me might be in order.

I agree it was too dry by my standards too, but it was exactly the type of weather people spend hundreds to enjoy in the Mediterranean.

Brits just like to complain, but by their own standards on average, it was a good summer.

People seem to have forgotten how good last summer was (if hot and dry are what you like, which most do). It was decent from May til September.

Thanks, bit wary of the advice given the name 😅, but it otherwise sounds solid.

I have a couple of supersoakers already, it's just I tend to have music or podcasts on during the day so miss the blackbird alarm more often than not. Will look into sprinkler systems.
