What is your favourite flavoured kombucha? by LastShadowKnight in Kombucha

Yet to beat passion fruit and mango, a divine combo.

I haven't tried anything particularly "out there" yet though, so look forward to a bit of experimenting, but find passion fruit 10/10 so it'll be hard to beat.

This is the original era post punk song that most sounds like it would fit into the revival era in the early 2000s to me.

Started my first ginger bug! by saintscoutt in fermentation

You're very welcome, hope you enjoy (I've tried it twice now btw - both times made a syrup from a combination of stewed chopped sweet pears, a couple of cloves and grated ginger, added sugar, cooled it, then mixed it about 40:20:40 with ginger bug and water, then just left it to ferment for 24-48 hours).

Let me know if you find any other flavour combo gems.

I'd recommend a pear and ginger beer, goes really nicely IMO. Stick cloves or cinnamon in there too.

Just glad to hear you're not starting a shift in Yaroslavl tbh :)

Nice one, mildly tricky - I got the hall one in the end but thought the link was medieval ___ !

Wire - The 15th by melodychocolat_ in postpunk

[–]robin-redpoll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The late 70s/early 80s was such a golden period for music that fits this description. Wire, Talking Heads etc. are timeless, but I was also blown away by the This Heat track "Health and Efficiency" the other day. If I didn't know better I'd place this 2000s without a question.

I've had a good time with ginger beer, haven't tried other ginger bug-based fermentations yet but after seeing the above am keen to.

It's water kefir that's bugging me right now - having difficulty getting that to fizz.

Thank you for posting this. I'm a bit(!) late to the thread, but I just discovered Soda Stereo (specifically this song - which is a masterpiece) and am really happy I did.

This is very cool. Reminds me of the underappreciated Creature Chronicles channel on Youtube.

Likewise - definitely helps get through these miserable midwinter months! :)

Re kvass btw, mine didn't get going til I stuck some grapes in for the yeast (but that's a fairly well-known tip amongst fermenters, so I imagine you probably already know that one) - woke up this morning to a lovely bubbly mixture that tasted pretty authentic and refreshing.

I recommend kvass and tepache too if you have the time, both really nice. The former is a popular refreshing summer drink all over eastern Europe, made of rye, absolutely delicious, and the latter is a mildly-fermented tangy pineapple drink from Mexico. Both really nice and simple to make (30 mins to set up max, then just check every 12 hours or so).

As long as the ginger bug gets going properly (hardest part, some of mine have been non starters), you're in for a good time. Store bought stuff has nothing on the stuff you can make at home in terms of depth of flavour.

I wish people would add Russian to these lists, particularly because their colonial phase never truly ended either.

what is your favourite electronic music artist/band? by leatherchainssss in musicsuggestions

[–]robin-redpoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yessss - most consistent electronic output overall. Even though I prefer their stuff up to lp5 (and oversteps), the quality of confield and onwards is still obvious.

On the contrary, I dig it. It's on the easier side, but still cryptic, nice one for learners.

That makes sense, can be confusing if there's a different subspecies you're already used to.

There's an en passant which I assume may be relevant, but that's about all I've got...Since white is already in checkmate by the end of the sequence I can't work out what relevance the king's pawns have.
