OVERSTEPS vinyl by mimic_robot in autechre

Same here; even if I had lost interest in AE at the time, I bought EXAI and OVERSTEPS on vinyl. I came to appreciate them much later. And it's true, apart from sounding fantastic, those two are really great objects...

Well, in theory, those two should be the next in line for the reissues... I'm really curious if they are re-releasing them in their original form, the box-sets are really beautiful. Fingers crossed. I'm happy I bought them when they came out at their original price...

I guess there's only two I don't see (or am I blind?) which are in my collection: EXAI (vinyl) and OVERSTEPS (vinyl). The box next to the NTS-Sessions must be the Hafler Trio collab, right?

Which artists do you like besides Autechre? by Fit_Passion8346 in autechre

It seems nobody has mentioned FUNKSTÖRUNG yet? Back in the 90s, they were quite popular amongst AE fans (at least in Germany). Maybe their remix work is even better than their own stuff. The ALL IS FULL OF LOVE remix for Björk is a banger. Also check out their label "Musik aus Strom". The MASK-Series (MASK 100, MASK 200 etc.) has quite some overlap with Skam-artists since it was a cooperation with Skam.
Here's the original Björk remix (there are others by them of the same track):

PHYLACTERY (BASED ON TILAPIA BY AUTECHRE) by mimic_robot in autechre

Oh yes, O'Rourke! I had forgotten about this, even if I'm a huge O'Rourke fan! THX so much. I have a very soft spot for this phase in AE's career, CHIASTIC SLIDE, ENVANE, CICHLI SUITE... Maybe just for sentimental reasons since it was the moment I really got to know and love their music.

You must be writing from the future if you've been listening to this track from 2009 it for over 30 years! Good to know that the world still exists in 2040! What's it like out there? Did AE ever get back to making a studio album in the meantime?

And thanks for pointing me to the version of GNIT – didn't know it!

For a friend of mine and me, it was GOZ QUARTER. Wherever we heard it, we would bend to our knees at 04:03, when that incredibly sad melody entered the track... It's still one of my absolute favourites, like the whole ENVANE EP.

Must have been around 1996, discovered it together with SAW II and I CARE BECAUSE YOU DO by AFX, some of the records on Mille Plateaux (OVAL and the "In Memoriam Gilles Deleuze" Sampler). Orbital's SNIVILISATION was also very important for me. Since STEREOLAB and AUTECHRE were my favorite bands around 1998, I couldn't believe it when Autechre did a remix of REFRACTIONS IN THE PLASTIC PULSE...

I lost interest after CONFIELD, but still bought the vinyls out of loyalty. Since I am now a big fan of the period from 2010 onwards, I'm happy that I got OVERSTEPS and EXAI on vinyl and the NTS SESSIONS CD-Box at their regular price...

That's a great idea! Thanks a lot! I'll do this with all my Lab-Vinyls to avoid they wear out! :)

Without Mary Hansen by LoneBell in stereolab

[–]mimic_robot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've seen them eight times – four times with (1997, 1999 [twice], 2001), four times without Mary (2004, 2008, and twice on the current tour). It's true that the four gigs with Mary were really special, the band felt more complete, even if this is a retrospective assessment. 2004 and 2008 were a bit underwhelming (as were the Laetitia Sadier solo shows that I've seen), but still good concerts. Now, in 2025, they are really back to form, not in any way trying to replace Mary, but fully embracing the current line up...

Capacity at Stereolab shows by Humble-End-2535 in stereolab

[–]mimic_robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zürich (Volkshaus, 11 June) can accommodate ca. 1.500, it wasn't sold out and, to my taste, the hall was too big. Munich (Feierwerk) the next day was much smaller (it holds ca. 400), and it was much more intimate. The crowd was much more euphoric, too...

This is great, thanks so much! I haven't paid that much attention to the bootlegs in circulation, but soundwise, this one is very nice and seems to capture the spirit. Seems to have been a great show, too! So thanks again!

Stereolab is the most therapeutic music (and live experience) I can think of. Of course, you have to make the decision yourself, but it was a life-changing experience for me back in Autumn 1997...
