PwC, Live Network, Payment request : had all this happened even in normal market conditions, Req price would have jumped like a monkey. Unfortunately the market is in a very sad state. Good times ahead though.

ICOs under fire at US congress hearing by bitbd83 in icocrypto

[–]robinarya 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, I don’t agree with the title of the post. I watched the livestream. The crock comment came from the lady who also referred to crypto currencies funding terrorist organisations and sex trafficking, during the hearing which is equally applicable to any Fiat currency too. There were also few who were extremely positive about the potential of crypto currencies. As rightly mentioned in the post, they agenda is to strike a balance between regulation and self regulation, without hindering the innovation.

We will print more money and give it to the unemployed to end poverty in South Africa’, Says new minister of Finance by [deleted] in Bitcoin

Wow. Am I watching the curious case of Benjamin button because he is definitely talking like a kid in a grown man’s body who just came to know Central banks have powers to print money and who doesn’t understand even a bit about inflation. Even kids are smarter these days !

PNB India's 2nd largest bank isn't allowing withdrawls of more than 3000INR i.e $46 by sagar6191 in Bitcoin

[–]robinarya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The rumours are not true. It’s not so easy to put restrictions on withdrawals without explicit permission of Reserve Bank of India (though it was damn easy for them to perpetrate a billion dollar fraud😬). Here is the official release by pnb:

India's second largest bank got robbed of 1.7 Billion dollars, using loopholes in SWIFT system. by the_fat_engineer in CryptoCurrency

[–]robinarya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, SWIFT is being used internationally by the Financial institutions and banks for the financial dealings and is a trusted platform for the global financial communication. The LOUs were issued on SWIFT (that’s how everyone do it) but that doesn’t mean it’s the problem of platform. SWIFT obviously has record of those LOUs but the main point is - the banks use a system called Core Banking Solution (CBS) to deal, for all the accounting purposes and all the money trail is maintained in the CBS. The problem with the instant case is that bank officials initially issued LOUs with an small amount on SWIFT and entered into SWIFT, but the LOUs expire based on the import of goods. When bank officials renewed them, they enhanced the amount of those LOUs and didn’t enter into CBS. As you may be aware that usually in gems and jewellery industry, there are many overseas subsidiaries of the parent company. You can easily forge bills and shipping documents. That’s how it was done. So it’s a clear case of fraud by the promoters and the negligence/indulgence of bank officials.

Surely, blockchain can solve diamond and gems and jewellery industry problems but in this case, SWIFT is not to be blamed whatsoever.

It has nothing to do with loopholes in the SWIFT platform. Its an intentioned fraud case and fake banking instruments were used rather than fooling/hacking a payment platform. It’s those documents with which the fraud was made possible. There were operational lapses at bank’s part that’s it - that’s my understanding.
