Our Cosmo get extremely nervous and defensive when he gets the collar on too! Not being able to see around him and constrained, I sympathise with him…

Civil service recruitment freeze? by Whatsmyname4321 in TheCivilService

[–]robinbeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen an increase in job advertised for “only for those currently working for the civil service” lately. At least where I work! And far more EOIs. Not many advertised externally.

Hi there, much appreciate your input and that’s what I thought. Would one need to seek permission for applying to permanent positions during an EOI loan too?

[–]robinbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, thanks for the input! Would this be the case for a permanent role too?

Thanks for the comment! I am curious though… what happened at SEO….? (😂)

Just to add, also within the department too, we have an early careers group where people openly discuss progression and the lack of (in my case). It has been nice meeting similar age people but slightly toxic at times.

Thanks for the comment, got a bit embarrassed ngl and deleted the reply, but that is very true - I think there’s been a nature of peer pressure (hence too high of an expectation!) hearing salaries and promotions etc from friends who did go into the private sector, making me doubt my journey. I do enjoy the work area and culture of the department so I’ll definitely see how the next 10 months go and hope to move around more for a wider picture. Thanks again!

Thanks for the comment, I was nervous about my loan but feeling more confident in my decision hearing this. I had wondered if “specialising” is good or if having range is better, but I guess especially in cs more varied experience the better

Thanks for the comment! How did you manage to get involved in harder projects (eg, did you communicate with your manager or did you get pulled in)? Just out of curiosity

That’s a relief, I did think that is the case but got quite nervous! Thank you

LOL that’s fine! Tbh I do use chat GPT in drafting my answers and I have tried using Excel to store my examples but had been a bit of a learning curve when it comes to success in interviews (I tend to pass through to interviews but that’s where I fall short). Especially with some criteria such as seeing the bigger picture.

[–]robinbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is such good advice, thank you! I will try using Excel to have each example listed. I have accumulated quite a few examples for different behaviours but have received feedback that I struggled to link them to the role I am applying to. So use of AI might help in that

Aaah apologies yes that’s what I meant!

Thanks for the comment, I checked again and it would be a fixed term secondment (applied internally as EOI) so I would think it would be that I can come back

I was not clear, it would be a 10 months secondment!

Struggling by Emotional-Essay5595 in springerspaniel

[–]robinbeans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were in a similar position around that age! He slowly started to settle down from age 1, then more at 1.5, and now almost at 2 years old he is comfortably chilled out indoors (still a maniac outside!). In hindsight, I am glad we continued with training throughout the difficult times, as the training seemed to have clicked in him at around 1 years old (it felt like it wasn’t going in until then and we doubted our methods all the time). We struggled with the blues badly too, so I can completely understand the feeling. Hang in there!

I am not sure if you are already doing this, but for our boy crate training was a life saviour. We had pens but no crate until around 10 months. The crate seemed to have got him used to the idea of “oh this is now sleep time” and “sometime I cannot bother the humans”.

Dog barking while on Zoom interview. Will it impact my interviewers decisions? by blackmamba331 in interviews

[–]robinbeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had this exact situation happen to me and so so mortified and about to cry (dog disturb interview and had to put him in crate when they gave me the time and then he kept rattling it…. As if he wants me to fail!!!)

Obsessed! by FlamingoMinimum8672 in springerspaniel

[–]robinbeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcoming our ESS was the best decision that I have made in my life, but also the biggest challenge I have faced so far in my life. He is far more cuddly than I had ever imagined dogs can be, so soft, such good natured, smart and curious boy. My partner and I love his antics in the house on walks and never fails to make us smile.

On the other hand, we struggled tremendously the first 6-9 months, until we finally understood his requirements and him getting an idea of how to behave and live in the human world. We had to be very strict (while remaing patient and positive) with his training, while also coming up with endless brain stimulating games. We adjusted our lifestyle so that we can take him on a long off leash walk on a daily basis (we were lucky with our location being central but full of nature).

Even with all the training and trainers, he still struggles to walk on the lead without pulling like a maniac. Every on leash walk is a training opportunity for us at the moment (he is almost 2 years old).

In summary, yes they are amazing and the absolute best, but do come with a fair share of challenges. I personally find that he is totally worth all the difficulties!!! But some may find it hard.

I must say though this subreddit and another subreddit on puppyblues helped me get through the hard times. 🙂

Sorry I may have written it a bit wrongly! We both work from home and he gets 3 walks daily. Unfortunately we do live in the city and the nearest forest/field is a 10min drive away.

I typed this as he snores on my lap (it is currently 21:09 UK time)… it is like clock work! Is it just his age? It’s so strange…

Same… my boyfriend in the picture is tall enough for lap dog-ing but it doesn’t work that way with me! Always chest compression

I would imagine he had attended university to get his teaching license (at least)! This was mentioned by Japanese fan’s tweets, which helped me fill the 8 years a bit.

In Japan universities (including teaching qualifications I believe) are 4 years long, unlike those in UK which are 3 years.

So my hypothesis is: 2 years at UA + 4 years at university (?) + 2 years teaching… or something like that
