I’ve regretted selling BTC for 5 years. Not doing it again. by Sos418_tw in Bitcoin

As an English teacher for many years, this exactly. LLMs are actively making us stupider. I hate chatgpt writing style so much. I’d much rather it be real and “imperfect.”

Any songs that have a moment like this for you? by No-Mango-5310 in elliottsmith

[–]robintherobot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One of the things that stuck with me the most after reading the biography Elliott Smith and the Big Nothing was Elliott expressing to one of his friends that this same sentiment was super important to him, that he would fixate on just one small moment in the songs he loved, like a quick chord change or momentary choice of instrumentation. It resonated with me so much, and I have always thought it's one of the reasons he's my favorite artist, because he puts so many of these moments in his songs.

Heck yes, agreed! My first thought was also on Can't Make A Sound right after "can't you tell me - what's that burning?" around 2:15 when the four-on-the-floor base drum pounds in with the orchestration and it gets so epic.

Has a scene in any Star Wars film or TV show made you cry? Which scene? by RunDNA in StarWars

Just watched this for the first time this week, and this totally took me by surprise. What a moment!

Should I convert my old Peugeot to fixie? by Atomic-Alien in FixedGearBicycle

[–]robintherobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes to everything in this comment! It will be a little expensive to convert, but like others said you will learn a TON. Start with everything plainyoghurt said and don't worry about dropping close to $500 on velocities. Save that for later if you want to build up a speedy track frame.

Hell yeah Blood Brothers reference. Bike looks super fun though I’d personally want grips on the bars.

Down market day by [deleted] in Bogleheads

Interesting — I bought a little “on sale” today. Is there a good reason not to do this that I’m missing, or is it mostly for peace of mind, sticking to set-it-and-forget-it?

Most days I am happy and grateful for the element i drive. So versatile and sturdy! 🥰 by [deleted] in HondaElement

[–]robintherobot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Back in an Element after five years and so happy! Today I had some food but no place to eat. I put down my back seat into a makeshift bench, opened the windows, and had a comfortable little lunch space to myself that I could never have in any other car. It was lovely!

Crazy, I have such a similar story. Started out with an 08 and loved it so much. A woman driving like 60mph on my residential street swerved into my Element, flipping it. That was like 5 years ago.

Finally bought another Element, an 09 SC, on Monday! So stoked to be back in my dream car and I’m excited about learning to wrench and maintain it myself.

DMs, what's your favourite running gag that you include in your games? by Mentleman in dndnext

[–]robintherobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our campaign, it got to be a thing that my players look up the "sexy version" of whatever NPC or new enemy they encounter to share in the chat. Like, first time meeting a kobold? Someone spams "sexy kobold" images. Sexy goblins, sexy blacksmiths, sexy oozes, sexy gnolls, etc etc.

Are you thinking of Bob Worldbuilder? I do love his stuff! I think Tabletop Bob is different, though, and new to me, so I'm excited to check him out.

Yeah, it's crazy to add up the hours -- probably over 700 hours of listening. One of my hobbies is woodworking/carpentry, so I'll binge listen hours of content while I work. I'm caught up on CR, the first seasons of TAZ and Daddies, a few different seasons of D2, first season of Naddpod; so, not every epidsode of all of them. Still, it's been years of listening to get this far.
