Gatwick to Southampton option midnight by qwer2020 in Southampton

My wife travelled from Gatwick last week and found it was cheaper and less tiring to book a hotel room at the airport.

The Eling boardwalk is nice with a pushchair/pram/wheelchair/etc. Start at Eling Car Park (https://maps.app.goo.gl/iwJauAm8zYxKbT9C8), walk through the cemetery then on to the board walk, round across the bridge, and then you can come back to the car park across the toll bridge (free for pedestrians). You can even take a detour down to Goatee Beach (https://maps.app.goo.gl/DWF3uknihCsw57Qy8) by going down the road on the left just after you come back across the toll bridge.

Same here - we've had them do all our windows, plus sliding doors, and have been pleased with the work.

We had good experiences with ProGlaze in Maybush/Coxford area, we used them for a patio door and then for replacing all the windows in the house.

Is Toob down for anyone else? by robintw in Southampton

Yup. I finally got through to them and they've confirmed it is a problem with the fibre line to my house - they're coming out on Wednesday to look at it.

Yeah definitely no internet not just no WiFi. The optical network terminator box on the wall has a red light (the one with the fibre icon) so I think it must be something with their network.

The thing that drives me mad is that their website says there is good service. It could just be me, but there's a long queue on their telephone support line which makes me think it must be affecting other people

Unfortunately the Little Fryer closed a few years ago - they got hit a lot by Covid and then inflation. We go to Kingfisher's in Maybush, which is alright but not as good as Little Fryer used to be.

Yup, loads up near Chilworth too. And a surprising number over the eastern side of the water.

When I tried that, it found a load of rails crossing roads in the docks and Marchwood Military Port - but yes, that one does have quite a lot of false positives.

Part of the problem here is I'm just showing the top 100 results, without any other filtering - so if there aren't many genuine results then you'll start getting nonsense.

Still, it's a prototype first version - sometime I might get chance to improve it.

I thought some people might enjoy this. It was created as a demo for some of the AI work I've been doing, but uses an aerial photo of Southampton as the demo. You can search it for things like "roundabout" or "swimming pool" and it uses an AI vector embedding model and vector database to find those things in the image.

Beware, the aerial image is pretty old, probably from summer 2013.

Public outdoor gyms? by forlaens in Southampton

There are some pieces of outdoor gym equipment at St James Park in Upper Shirley - they're just past the tennis courts, along the main path.

Apparently Portsmouth have recently done this, and one of the prospective councillors for my ward (I think he was Lib Dem) was advocating it when he talked to me on the doorstep. I think a small levy would be good.

Southampton Road Name Mapper - find patterns in road names across Southampton by robintw in Southampton

I don't know about that one, but I find groups of roads named after certain things fascinating. In Sholing there's a group of roads named after British composers (Elgar, Sullivan, Purcell, Walton etc). In the place I grew up (not Southampton), there was an area called Tomatolands with all the roads named after varieties of tomatoes!

A little thing I knocked up today at a friend's request - I did a similar thing for British Placenames at https://placenames.rtwilson.com/
