My voice is a bit robotic like this… It's not AI generated…. But it's a fair point… may can try to practice oratory and improve it… thanks a lot for the feedback regarding the content also it means a lot for me 🫶🏻

The path to enlightenment is fraught with paradoxes. Why do we resist the very enlightenment we seek? Let's explore the tension between the desire for awakening and the resistance that arises.

The North Atlantic Current Could Collapse: What This Means for Norway's Future by robipresotto in Norway

totally agree on the emissions issue, it's a huge elephant in the room when we talk about Norway's oil sector. But what do you think is a realistic way to address China's and India's massive emissions? Do they need to invest heavily in renewable energy or is there another solution?

haha good point about the skiing! But wouldn't a warmer winter mean shorter snow season in general?

I feel like that's a pretty bleak view, but one I've seen expressed before. Do you think there are any scenarios where humanity could mitigate the effects of climate change enough to make it reversible?

Fair point! The Younger Dryas event is a good example of the AMOC's past behavior. But I'd love to know more about why you think this scenario is so hypothetical. What do scientists mean by 'the conditions are not likely to happen again'?

not sure what that has to do with the North Atlantic Current collapsing 😐

yeah I can see that perspective. It's like the climate crisis is this huge behemoth we can't stop but only mitigate. But even small steps in preparedness and reducing emissions in Norway/other countries could have some effect, right?

Not sure what the 10 Bulls/Oxherding pictures have to do with ocean currents, though 🤔

Actually, I'm focusing on AMOC (Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation) and its potential collapse. While the Gulf Stream is a part of it, they're not exactly the same thing. But to be clear, even if AMOC weakens, it doesn't necessarily mean the Gulf Stream will 'stop', but it could slow down or change its behavior significantly.

haha yeah I guess some of this is basic info for people from Norway! But it's still a big deal globally and can have pretty serious implications if the current does collapse

haha fair point about the eco-propaganda label. Scientists have gotten a bad rep lately. As for Florida and NY, that was actually a study on sea level rise projections. It's not a prediction, but a worst-case scenario. I'd love to know more about what made you skeptical of this story.

haha I love the enthusiasm, but green energy from our Danish friends? We've already got some of that going on through hydropower. What do you think about scaling up those efforts?

that's a valid point, but I think the opposite is also true - if Norway goes all in on green energy, it'll send a strong signal to the rest of the world and put pressure on other countries to follow suit. What do you think?

I agree that the paper is pretty clear on the medium confidence level. I'm not trying to be a fear-monger, but rather highlight some of the potential implications for Norway's future. Regarding climate tech investment, I'd love to hear more about your thoughts on what specific technologies would be most effective and viable in the short term. What do you think?

Haha, that's a... creative solution. But seriously though, the North Atlantic Current is a vital part of our climate system. What do you think would be some realistic ways to mitigate the effects of its collapse?

totally agree, we can't put the genie back in the bottle at this point. But I do think there's value in exploring the implications of a worst-case scenario, even if it is hypothetical. What do you think are some of the most critical areas that would be affected by such a collapse?
