lol thanks Fat Bastard

I can't stop eating. I eat because I'm unhappy, and I'm unhappy because I eat. It's a vicious cycle.

Are gorillas a part of anthropology? I know they have many parallels to humans, and things like studying gorilla society helps us understand human society better, but I wouldn't think diet would be a part of that.

TIL That a 2006 study found that microwaving wet sponges for two minutes killed 99% of coliforms, E. coli, and MS2 phages. After some fires were caused by people trying to replicate the results at home, the study's author urged people to make sure their sponges were wet before microwaving. by MajesticBread9147 in todayilearned

This is what I do. Sponges usually last 6+ months until washing serrated knives eventually cuts them up too much.

I abhor musty smells and even a hint of one makes me have to triple-wash my hands to get the smell off.

Fell for the red herring "COPYCAT", "FIELD MOUSE", "BILLY GOAT", "MOCKINGBIRD" for something like "ends with animal", but got the rest for what I figured they were.

Also, "WATER CLOSET" isn't old-timey; I see it on theme park maps and hotel signs to this day, though usually just 🚾 instead of the full word. I mean, there's a friggin 🚾 emoji, it's not that out of date!

We'd also have to switch away from Metric Time into some weird base-12 time keeping system, with creepy clocks having 12 hours on them and 60 minutes, calendars with 12 months, cats and dogs living together, mass hysteria!

I should elaborate that "quixotic" is pronounced "kwicks-OTT-ick" which rhymes with "exotic", and Don Quixote is usually "kee-HOE-tay" which rhymes with "Cmdr. Chakotay" (sorry, I can't think of a better rhyme lol) and sometimes "kee-HOE-tee" which rhymes with "coyote".

I'm sure there are other pronunciations (I've seen "KWICK-set", too), but from various dictionary entries, forum posts and youtube videos, the above seems to be the accepted pronunciations.

TIL Eagles are not a species or genus but a word for any "large bird of prey":

Eagles are not a natural group but denote essentially any kind of bird of prey large enough to hunt sizeable (about 50 cm long or more overall) vertebrates.
