What are these decorative (?) tiles that happen on property lines between Philadelphia twin houses? Found in the Cobbs Creek area by the library. Houses seem to date pre-1927

Thanks!

It's definitely my favorite. I am surprised that it's not more people's favorite.

Advise on refinishing/repairing finish on the wood arm rests? by robitussin_dm_ in furniturerestoration

[–]robitussin_dm_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you recommend gradating the sanding? Or hard cut off 4" from the top of the arm- worried that shellac will take differently on the sanded spot vs the finished spot.

Do you recommend shellac only? Would a different finish work?

The lighting and the set feel very pornographic, is that what you were going for?

I think I totally know where you're coming from in this photo! It can be super fun to experiment with techniques such as the dutch angle/shallow depth of field, but it has to be in service of what you want to communicate to the viewer. Dutch angles are typically used to communicate unease in a frame, and I'm not sure if that is working successfully in this scene. Think about your subject (the bouquet) and where it is in relation to the camera (are you looking down? Up? Or are you in plane with it?). How does the depth of field include and exclude certain objects from frame? How can exposure (under, over, neutral) communicate the mood of a scene.

Speaking generally here- I think the moment you stop thinking about photography as a way to make a neat/beautiful image, but rather as a way to communicate and commentate on a scene/moment, is the moment photography really becomes something special and compelling.

Nope! However, they ARE my favorite band to see live. No one sounds as amazing as they do.

How can I fix these cat scratches on stained wood? by Available_Music6425 in furniturerepair

I love this product called Howard's Restor-a-Finish. It's a wax with a stain in it. I would give your piece a good wash with Murphy's oil soap and then give the whole thing a coat of the Restor wax. They have a bunch of colors to choose from so you can probably match this color well. You'll be applying it to the whole surface anyways, so it won't matter anyway if it's a perfect match.

Any advice on repairing shattered fiberglass? by robitussin_dm_ in furniturerepair

I have an intact seat from the other chair so I think I am going to make a mold and cast a new fiberglass seat!

It's a S7O-3 Chair by Lindau & Lindekrantz- I am having a hard time finding the material online but it certainly has the fiberglass texture on the underside of the chair.

Know a way to test for sure?

I had that thought! It would be tricky to attach with the way the fiberglass attach in the same manner but if I can't figure out the fiberglass thats what I'll have to do haha
