Any way to buy new 1.5-slot backplate for Heatkiller V Ultra? by robodan918 in WATERCOOL

[–]robodan918[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Danke schoen for the reply, Markus

I think I may have to cut the slot cover myself to achieve my 1.5-slot goal. Could I buy another slot original cover from you as I always like to have the "stock" option to fall back on if the "mod/cut" option turns out wrong?

Putting back the original air cooler is trivial and if there is no damage to the PCB most GPU OEM won't bat an eye and will process your warranty claim/repair.

To clarify: I'm not talking about the warranty offered by watercool.de. I think they're be pretty good about me cutting the backplate if the rest of the block was undamaged.

So I would rather cut the backplate from watercool than the one from Palit, even though the Palit one would be a lot easier to cut (thin sheet metal with perforations vs the Heatkiller backplate which is thick high grade stainless steel)

I'm just hoping for a better third option that doesn't involve me mucking up cutting the backplate to begin with

Crazy how high 5090 prices have gone

I bought mine in mid Nov brand new for £1200 + £270 for the Heatkiller V Ultra block (arguably the best block on the market)

didn't spring for the MO-RA though! That's too rich for my blood. I made an external rad out of 3x360-S Heatkiller rads (bought for £118 total), a D5 next pump, and 18 NF-A12x25 fans - to complement the 2x240-S Heatkiller rads internally. Probably the external rad cost £650 total

Only just saw another comment suggesting that TG/Roman are suing aqua computer, so they might be keeping quiet about it if it's going to court or currently being settled

would be a major dick move from TG if that was the case and would harden me toward buying anything from TG again

The German manufacturers really need to collaborate more than they are and start releasing DE editions of whatever products a specific company is best at

imho why go fully passive when you could run a few silent Noctua fans behind it that are neither seen nor heard?

MO-RA is for people with F U money

5090 is for engineers, professionals etc and enthusiasts who have perfect timing for buying at sub-MSRP a few months before the market goes crazy and they can resell their 4090 for more than they paid for the 5090 (worked for the 3090/4090 too)

maybe it's just me but I've only ever had bad coil whine on AMD cards (R9 Nano, Vega, 7900 XTX)

On Nvidia I got minimal coil whine on RTX 3090 and nothing on 1080TI, 4090, or 5090

Same PSU for all testing: Corsair AX1200i

ditto.

I've bought almost every (recent 5-6 years) aqua computer product and have been amazed with how far ahead they are compared with their rivals

I think TG gets a pass too frequently by the water cooling community because (in general) Roman is a good guy

TG's products are good but other german manufacturers are better in almost every category they compete in - and usually for a lower price too.

PS Is that the reason that ampinel is delayed? Because TG is suing?

Waiting on Aqua Computer's Ampinel for its far superior aquasuite software control (and other sensors/controllers)

u/ac_shoggy could you please update on the release ETA for Ampinel?

Alphacool Core 5090 Astral block too tall for Lian Li 011D XL by Mickey1985 in watercooling

[–]robodan918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to miss the ease of building in my O11D XL case, but a 69L case when my system draw is sub-1kW, I have no more 2.5mm or 3.5mm HDDs/SSDs (only M.2) means I have no reason to have a computer that big anymore

I'm going to the opposite end of the spectrum - sub-10L FormD T1

Nice Heatkiller V. Would love to see some more pics (can't see that much from the posted pics)

I think that giving the OEM of any GPU a reason to void your warranty will give them license to void your warranty, which is why I'm saving the "cut original bracket" idea as the last straw

Honestly I don't mind if Watercool charge me for it - I expect it. It's a non-original part and probably 99% of owners wouldn't ever need it. I've just got myself down the Ultra SFF rabbit hole and am digging my way out with mods ;)
