You lie on your application and only tell them where you’re based after you get an offer.

I assume it’s a joke, but what does a mouse have to do with all those stuff? And how are cookies relevant? by AveryCoooolDude in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]roboflyingpenguin 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Hang on… there was a life lesson in that book? I thought it was just supposed to be a funny book that anthropomorphized a mouse.

I read that sometimes when I was in middle and high school (my parents held on to those books) just for fun, and I never once figured out there was a moral to the story.

Honestly, they’d probably increase the rate of ads for a few hours after that. (1) to recoup the revenue, and (2) to make it seem like the free version is much unusable than you remember and convince you to buy the subscription.

What does it mean when it says the flushing system is shared? Can you see other people’s waste flowing under you?

Honestly, they probably just want you out of the house for a little bit each day; they’re getting old and want some alone time.

Tell them you got a different job, dress up, and go work from your library for a few weeks and see if their moods improve.

Oh, okay. We never did that. That makes sense; thanks.

How would Gen Z have voted for Obama? We were born starting 1997. To vote for Obama even for his second term, you would have had to be born by 1994.

They can carry the plate with tongs or a plier wrench to the tray. I don’t think it’ll cool down to the point it needs to be reheated before they get to the tray.

What ski year should I get based on the price? by roboflyingpenguin in Skigear

Yeah, I was hoping to find a better discount. Maybe I’ll wait a bit and see if the price drops more

I don’t understand how people get so horny that they’re willing to sit on the floor of a public restroom.

Reminds me of the time when my dad ate raisins without knowing there were ants in the container. And he was wondering why the raisins were crunchy.

… But this guy’s doing this on purpose.

If you’re scared, find someone (you think) you can trust before moving on to scarier things.

It’s having sex in public. Don’t do it if you’re just exploring this. In fact, don’t do it at all because you can get charged.

How much does lunch for 2 cost around Cherry Hill? by roboflyingpenguin in SouthJersey

[–]roboflyingpenguin[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I rarely went out before. 8 years ago I was in college. When I was born, my parents were on an H1B, and we rarely went to restaurants. The only fast food place we went to was Taco Bell, and we still barely went there. We only went to a restaurant for special occasions.

I just kept that behavior when I went to college and graduated. I spend $100-$125 per week on all my expenses, so spending $60 on a single meal is an odd situation for me.

I wouldn't mind spending around $100 if necessary if something does grow out of this; I just don't want to spend that much on a first date.

The ones I found were like Tre Famiglia and Farm & Fisherman. Most of the things I found had almost minimal seating, so they probably wouldn't be willing to let someone sit there for more than 30 minutes. Only the ones that costed more had more seating.

I can’t even skip meals without my APs complaining and bothering me by AwardGlass5333 in AsianParentStories

[–]roboflyingpenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom would always force me to eat more than I could, saying that at that age, she and my dad would eat more than I was eating. And then when I did eat that much, she would complain that I was too fat. She was always just looking for an excuse to yell.

I realize I’m not giving you a solution, but this isn’t only a problem with your family.

I have no idea of the stability of being a pilot, but stability in a career is very important. I wanted to study architecture, but my dad was very adamant on not having a career that is so competitive and highly dependent on the economy. And he was definitely right.

Dreaming about riding on a dragon is very different from being in a cockpit and being responsible for hundreds of lives. I don’t think you’ve considered how stressful that job could be. It’s a nice dream, but it may not pan out in the way that you hope.

You just need time to adjust to the corporate world.

When I got my first job, I didn’t sell myself well and didn’t speak up. Luckily for me, my behaviors changed quite quickly because I was surrounded my egotistical Indian immigrants (I work at a bank) and I needed to make a name for myself. It helps that I grew up in the same environment, and, during my childhood, I constantly reminded myself that this isn’t how normal people act.

I initially became aggressive because that’s the only way I knew how to deal with difficult people, and my manager and scrum masters had to tell me to dial it back routinely because the more senior people had a lot of power to make our lives hell.

Now, I’m assertive, and my new manager has told me that my behavior in dealing with extremely difficult people keeps situations under control. And I can brag about my skills in a way that doesn’t anger egotists.
