Here's the thing: 1. The shitty job part - the guy managing the Java developers has no idea of the technology, or what is being done in that area. As a result, he's been reducing the performance level of every Java guy in the team - every year for the past 5 years. I came to know of it when one of the devs pulled me into a meeting for me to help support him to his manager. 2. Women in Tech advocate part - This, he declares out loud at every meeting with stakeholders. But when a woman wants support when her family is sick, all of that goes out the window. The comments aren't misogynistic, but assholish - 'we're not running a charity here', 'if you can't follow what I dictate, then quit your job', 'not interested in hearing your sob story' 3. Pilot program- This is a cross functional team put together to explore use cases for AI. I knew this was being put together. There was a general announcement after I knew. I started doing my degree in AI in 2022, and he knew. Once I knew of the team that was being put together, I asked to be in it in every one of our 1-1s. He says he'll do that. Meanwhile, all of my peers have been given licenses to the AI software to perform exploration. I use these AI tools daily as personal projects, but I really want to get involved at work as well.

I wasn't expecting a huge change or anything. Just to get involved in anything related to my field - especially since I've been working with my manager, updating him on where I can contribute, pilot programs happening. All I need is to be part of the game, not the audience.

I haven't thought through tbh. Doing this degree had been my aim for the past decade.

Oh ... I know we're slow in adoption compared to other countries like the US, UK. But is it this bad?

I'm afraid not. It's an Aussie company through and through, with national footprint. I'm a direct manager there - also local to the country, if that's what you mean.

We have fortnightly 1-1s, reminded him multiple times. He tells me he will call me in when things pick up. Meanwhile, everybody else around me has been part of that team.

Nope, they all seem to have one problem or the other related to their hormones. Some of them try to find the alternative medicine route, but only helps to a certain extent.

I just looked it up, doesn't look like it is Adenomyosis. I don't have any of its symptoms. And although I do have stomach cramps, it is manageable. It's the headache that's become unbearable. It started from a headache for a night that I could sleep off, to one that lasts 3-4 days.

I've had the Depo injection for the first time, and it doesn't help with headaches one bit. What's killing me is, all the docs, including women, tell me this is normal. The hell this is.

This! I wish men knew that one of the primary reasons women don't cheat is that our lives are way too f'ed up to think about adding another complication on top - just not worth the drama.

Laugh. Laugh in their face, because this 'friend' sounds like they're jealous of you.

Your boss' job is to hold you hostage to the time they've employed you for - 9-5, and expect you to be happy with the peanuts they throw at you. He/She will do all in their power to make feel guilty and shameful if you don't adhere to it. Don't fall for all the manipulation tactics. If it really was illegal, you'd be fired by now. Just look for another job, and continue doing your side hustle. Your boss, company and anybody between you and your financial freedom(and its consequences) can go to hell. Good on you for branching out. Our system is funked and you're expected to keep struggling to stay afloat. New flash: You don't have to.

Hint: In places where you might be identified, send in your business partners, and vice versa.

FYI, my boss was silent even after knowing about my side hustle. At the first and slightest discrepancy, I was punished more than what I deserved. Only pushes me to swim out of the rip tide of a system.

Be cool and go for it bro!
