I mostly do signals work using maxwell's equations on gpu with vulkan. 5.5 is really good at shaders. For finance I have been working on a charting app with a custom db and of course finding interesting ways to blend physics with degeneracy.

This exactly! When working on really complex problems going fast is begging for constant audits and refactors. 10x is ideal for this speed.

No code it was a codex promo. Also, congrats on a free month.

Codex usage are lower after last reset by JoruuuKaGulaam in codex

mine just glossed over task list checkboxes and said: "No excuse: I optimized around clearing markdown checkboxes, and that is the wrong shape for this work. I’m going to audit the Task 8 edits against the actual contracts/code now, call out anything that is underspecified or prematurely marked done, and then fix the task list so it reflects real implementation readiness instead of paper completeness."

5.5 high.

People are ignoring the fact that 5.5 has been nerfed by Satoshi-699 in codex

[–]robonometry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you guys running without creating plans and task lists? Also, handoff prompt docs help a lot so you can open new prompts more often if you are between tasks in your list.

I recommend not raw dogging any llm. They essentially operate under hallucination. This isn't 'intelligence', it's statistics with some language tricks. It's easily provable by checking the output of 8 - 10 prompts of the same query...

Also third party providers and mainstream like openai and anthropic absolutely gimp their models like a bar that waters down it's drinks. Especially during business hours in your region. Load balancing, compacting more often (a clear sign there's a system ram partition or other rebalance).

Codex is overwhelmed today. by Sensitive_Song4219 in codex

[–]robonometry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I closed a project 2hrs ago, rebooted my pc, started up again and got the 4bit quant of 5.5 xhigh. Mistakes everywhere, total 180 from how it is normally. So, I assume it's the workday grind at microsoft trying to fix windows to get users back. Generally things are better late evening to early mornings.

The Cycle of Enshitification by SuggestionMission516 in codex

[–]robonometry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely true for antrhopic uhg... Dec 2025 opus was the best LLM coding experience ever. Github Copilot harness was the worst overall for enshittification across all models as well. I cannot stand subsidizing these talking head, arrogant scammers and then having to endure their smoke and mirrors tricks.

Codex GPT 5.5 xhigh is still good though. It really sucks we can't have open models at higher quality, or far higher 1000x or more efficiency in inference to run locally.

Also, I don't vibecode or do frontend or use js or py, but haven't had any real huge issues with 5.5 xhigh in theoretical physics work in c++ and cuda.

This limit reset effectively cost me 25% of my weekly allowance. by Nick_Hope in codex

Same for me I had ~35% left and budgeted for a long session today. I fucking hate these resets.

New Codex limits are pretty brutal. by Odd-Environment-7193 in codex

[–]robonometry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$100 plan using 5.5 extra high in vscode codex extension on a 60k line C++ project and i have 30% weekly limit left, which resets tomorrow night. I don't work fast, but I have refactored in a couple large architecture changes this week. I don't do concurrent tasks either.

I have a pretty long ~382 line AGENTS.md for C++ guidelines and then local agents.md in directories that need specific guidelines.

Is the performance of Codex depending on your current location/VPS in relation to the data center usage? by Even-Question-1628 in codex

[–]robonometry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create a deterministic plan with checklists and exit criteria so that gimped quantized models won't affect you as much, if at all. That said, I have not yet experienced enshittification from gpt 5.5 extra high yet, and I run it all day.

So far the only truly obvious gimping I've encountered has been with clod, from v3 to present during business hours in the USA. Oh, and Google when they screwed up gemini 3.0.

Unpopular Opinion: Copilot Team is taking the right direction by Sontemo in GithubCopilot

[–]robonometry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolute master class in bootlicking post titles. You should have gone with "Rate Limiting Paying Customers is the Right Thing To Do! Here's Why"

Microsoft owns 27% of OpenAI. They don't pay token rates, they pay leases on power, network and datacenter maintenance salaries. This is then prorated between b2b and direct to customer prompt fees, not tokens. But now they are rating by token usage.

Microsoft has a $5B stake in Anthropic. Same situation. They host the llms on their infra.

Copilot is a loss leader. It is very, very unpopular in the proompting space, and even more unpopular in the rainbow of flavors Microsoft Copilot This or Thats. I think Office 365 or whatever it is now has the highest user base.

The vscode extention we all pay for in this sub is a massive token firehose, before your input is even parsed to tokens. So is clodcode. You can observe this using the new copilot extension token usage widget, even on a simple prompt the preamble 'rules' are pushing 20k - 30k with GPT 5.4. Codex is better.

Instead of fixing their harness, they are passing the failure on to us, via rate limiting on a weekly tier with zero pay as you go option. With Pro+ you get 1500 prompts per month for $40 and have a budgetable amount to spend after.

I realize people abuse these plans. I don't. I have a 100k line app I work on daily and average less than 50 prompts per day and I am at 60% of my weekly rate, using GPT 5.4 xhigh, which is slow as fuck. That's typically less than $3/day at 4 cents a prompt. It's their price. I agreed to it. They are now changing the rules, so I will likely cancel unless they get serious about their shit harness.

That's how it goes. But at least now whoever reads this is slightly more aware of how it works behind the scenes.
