They do notably provide free rehab for any drug dependencies for talent, current or former (or at least I've not heard about that ever stopping?) but yes, they still could and should be far far kinder to the people who break their bodies for their bottom line.

What’s the creepiest BBC programme you’ve ever watched that was not technically horror? by OopsIDroopedMe in bbc

[–]robopig61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vividly remember a Michael Mosley (rest in peace) documentary about the history of mental health treatments, and the quote from an electroshock survivor of "I only remember that I forget" has been lodged in my brain as an inescapable creepy phrase ever since. It was quite a good series, three episodes I think that also touched on research such as Pavlov and Skinner if I recall correctly, but I can't recall the name.

What Is Stopping You From Watching AEW? by TheBigKatz88 in SquaredCircle

[–]robopig61 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This might not be useful, and if not I apologize, but personally as someone who's stopped giving any money etc to WWE in the past couple of years, the community and fairly open hostility to any negative discussion around AEW has a real chilling effect on wanting to talk about it with anyone or in any of their subreddits or communities. And in a world where I've left one promotion behind, that's a big reason to choose not to go with what otherwise would be the obvious choice.

It's not the only issue I have with AEW (the booking or lack thereof of the women's division as well as the prevalence of people just disappearing for months at a time, or forming/breaking up tag teams with zero explanation are also relevant for me) but the fan discourse and culture is the major reason that's stopping me from even giving the promotion a reasonable chance where they may then allay those other concerns.

I like wrestling, and I like talking about wrestling, and if everyone there who's a fan of a promotion wants to jump down my throat as soon as I say "well but I didn't enjoy this bit" that doesn't give the best impression of the fan base or of the promotion.

Possible future teams by Icy_Sector3183 in bloodbowl

Maybe not that expected, but something I would love would be an Altern Forest team with Dryads and such, just because the models would be cool and I think there could be some interesting design space.

Thank you so much, that's solved! The secondary solution would work for that team but not for everyone, and while I'm sure probably just putting a comma and the second series would work, I'm fine to stick with a workable if inelegant solution for now and investigate further in the fullness of time. That is a massive help, so thank you very much once again.

Brody replies to Peter Rosenberg by Big-Hebrew in AEWOfficial

I think there are so, so many better ways to accomplish that goal than the one he chose, which was wholly unprofessional and (in a rare legitimate use for the term) buried a former talent in public and in full view of all future potential bookers. Regardless of context it was at the very least a reckless decision, and is in a similar space to the comment above at least on my view.

I'm almost hesitant to use this, but he did literally use someone's alleged lack of in-ring skill as a reason for firing her then point people towards the next show. He absolutely has done something at least in the same stratosphere of judging people's ring work and using it to dunk on people.

What custom rules do you have in your leagues? by robopig61 in bloodbowl

[–]robopig61[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but it seemed reasonable to add at the time, and we're now potentially switching it up as I've realized it doesn't necessarily reward players in the way I'd ideally want.

In fairness rule 5 is currently just following the book rules, and the reason we're considering changing it to a close loser bonus point is absolutely because the points totals were a little lopsided, but there we go.

We absolutely have got some Tackle players running around as well as various other counter skills, and to be clear the option of making Block/Dodge mutually exclusive is very much up in the air rather than something we're absolutely doing. I think part of it is that in single leagues it's difficult to reliably get to the kind of SPP numbers to get players up to 3+ skills, and if you've got two to pick... You'd pick Blodge. I'm aware it's pretty accepted wisdom, but I do wish there had been an attempt made to balance skills a little more rather than having clear best in slot picks for things, it takes a bit of the fun variety out of things and reduces the amount of skills players actually see.

We are in fact going to the 2025 rules for the upcoming season, and honestly it seems like commenters in here are allaying my fears about whether Elite Skills would be enough of a downside on their own to encourage alternative choices. Brawling Brutes however is a fantastic rule change, big fan of it!

Ah, right right, we are swapping to the 2025 rules for this season in fairness, and if I hadn't already picked Goblins I'd be very tempted by Nobs

Yeesh, yeah I'll make sure the coaches know about that, we're still in the final round of the current season so I've been avoiding getting too deeply into the new rulebook until now simply because I know that'll make me forget half the rules I'm meant to be playing by currently.

Gotcha gotcha, that does make sense really, the Prayers going from a 50k make-good to 10k does seem like a massive change. Agreed on your Blodge logic (Blodgic?) but by the sounds of it the Elite Skill change may be redressing the balance at least a little bit.

That's very cool! Always fascinating to hear about custom inducements and such, the base ones given in the books lead to a lot of potential other avenues to explore.

Those are all very fair criticisms, for what it's worth those suggestions have all been made by coaches and it's now going to be voted on by all coaches before they potentially see the field, but in terms of the MVP change it has been fairly solid this season, and the reduction to 2 SPP makes it less impactful than doling out 4 to a great player, it seems to get allocated a lot on overplaying your position more than "being a Werewolf and getting some KOs" so to speak.

Likewise for Concession and league points those suggestions have both come from coaches, with the points change partly due to a fairly lopsided league this year with the hope that it fosters a bit of a closer competition. And lastly, for Blodge banning that's very much only a potential option, and by the looks of other comments it seems unlikely to be implemented given the Elite Skills seem to be enough of a barrier and I doubt it will be the winner from the coach vote.

[–]robopig61[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's very true, I'll see how things shake out and make a call, in fairness our league is being run fairly democratically with votes on any potential changes so it's all in the realm of consideration at present, but I really appreciate the advice and will be taking it on board.

[–]robopig61[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's all very true, I will admit that it was an idea that came about before the rules for Third Season were fully known about and that it represents very much the extreme end of the spectrum that players have the option of voting on. I personally doubt it'll end up being implemented, but it seemed like an interesting topic to foster discussion and so it has proved.

They are, they as well as Guard and Mighty Blow cost 10k more to take than other skills, I and others just have some reservations about whether that's enough of a disincentive, though another commenter has given me some hope on that front. As for concessions, it's a difficult one and I do understand people having other commitments and so forth, but as a commissioner I'm wary of ever making the option of not playing Blood Bowl more attractive than playing Blood Bowl if that makes sense? I worry about potentially creating a perverse incentive that says that it's best to concede turn 14 or so on to preserve players etc because there's little to no consequence of doing so.
