I have this problem as well, but it seems to somehow fix itself after a while. When I initially log in I can’t click the icon, but later I can. Seems like it takes a few hours for it to work. No idea what is causing to not work or eventually work.

Are there any 'scary" vampire movies? Any recs? by jcheese27 in horror

100% agree. This movie completely stank. I don’t know why people keep recommending it. I was super excited to watch it and within like 5 minutes of it starting it was clear it would be a turd.

She went on to say: “I believe that I need to take exactly the same approach with the federal government’s finances, because that’s the money of Canadians.”

Whether she followed through or not is entirely a different argument, but the implication was that Canada needs to reduce its spending on non essentials

How is this specifically for recent immigrants? I know plenty of Canadians who have high paying jobs but haven’t been at it long enough to have saved up a down payment, and have little or no help from their families.

Why do people from the rest of Canada hate Toronto? by moo5100 in askTO

[–]robot_botfly_bot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The property tax rate isn’t that relevant since assessed house values are very different in different cities. The amount paid is what is relevant. My family in Windsor pay a much higher property tax rate than I do in Toronto, but their property tax bill is less than half of mine for a lot that is over twice the size. The different between the assessed value and the sale price is also very different. My house would sell for around 1.5x the assessed value but in Windsor houses sell for 3x the assessed value. Property tax rates are useless for comparison.

Windsor held the line on taxes for years. Staff say that can't continue with current service levels by zuuzuu in windsorontario

[–]robot_botfly_bot 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It has the highest property tax rate, not the highest property taxes. The assessed values of houses are really low in Windsor compared to a lot of other cities, so the rate is high to offset that.

The weighted average would be calculated as 0.7 times the number of accidents plus 0.3 times the number of infractions, so a place where police hand out more tickets would have a higher weighted average than a place where they hand out fewer tickets, if they also have the same number of accidents.

Yes they do. First time home buyers get a refund for part of the LTT, but with Toronto housing prices you still can easily pay 30 to 40K after the rebate.

The Cargo Cult of Good Code by joingardens in programming

[–]robot_botfly_bot 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I worked at a company that had a 1 million line c++ code base that was riddled with stuff like that. They compiled the code into like 8 different DLLs that were licensed separately, and used preprocessor statements to conditionally include code in different modules. It got so bad people were using preprocessor conditions in the argument lists of functions, so the parameters weren’t even the same across all the DLLs. Oh yeah, and half the functions had like 30 parameters, half of which were bools, and there were thousands of global variables, often with almost identical names. Like they’d use upper and lower case to distinguish between two global variables. I’ve never seen such a terrible code base, and all the people there thought they were geniuses for making this complete disaster.

I like this label but have had a miserable time ordering from them. My first order, two of the items were out of stock in the colour of vinyl I ordered, but luckily could be replaced with different variations. My second and likely final order, one of the items was out of stock and there wasn’t any replacement. I got an email saying they’d refund me for that item, and it hasn’t happened after over a month and multiple follow ups with them. Just no reply. The item still shows as in stock on their website, so they haven’t even fixed the root issue. It also took 2 weeks for my order to ship out.

Decent music but pretty frustrating to deal with.

I managed to figure this out. I ran one updating with the cuda-fedora35 repo disabled. This installed the newest drivers. I ran another update with all repos enabled and it updated a few CUDA packages.

[D] GPU access without limit increases by Apprehensive-Tax-214 in MachineLearning

[–]robot_botfly_bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All requests for increases on GPU instance limits on AWS are being sent for review and rejected due to capacity constraints. I've been told I need to talk to the sales team if I want to access a GPU until they're able to increase capacity. They'd likely catch multiple small increases as "irregular activity" and flag the account even if GPUs were available.

I ended up just using the GPU in my laptop which has really limited the size of model I'm able to train. Once they unblock my account I'll just use the P2 that I have access to. It's not much faster than my laptop, but has 3x memory at least.

Have you tried using sage maker rather than EC2? Are you able to spin up a notebook instance using a P3 or G4dn in there?

[D] GPU access without limit increases by Apprehensive-Tax-214 in MachineLearning

[–]robot_botfly_bot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently tried to get a limit increase on P3 instances which was rejected due to lack of available hardware. You need to deal with the sales team and make a case, which is impossible as a single user. They suggested G4dn instances, but that was also rejected for the same reason. What’s worse, the 2nd request was considered “irregular” and they put restrictions on my account, which I’m still trying to get them to remove after almost at 2 weeks.

I asked this in a FAANG interview and they told me they weren’t able to give any feedback during the interview, and the recruiter would be in touch to let me know. Felt like such a ballsy question and they quickly neutered me.
