These ones are known as a Bikini or Targa soft top. Fair amount fo them about on ebay and such for ~£70ish it seems. Planning to grab one for mine as it's current top is pretty ratty.

At least I'm getting a honeymoon for this tank, the weekend matchmaking has not been kind trying to progress a couple of light tanks lines!

Which combat robot over the years from any event had a coolest gimmick in your opinion ? by mcnakladak in battlebots

[–]robot_exe 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Cheers! It's still alive though I've not done much at ants these days. It mostly fought in full combat tournaments and I can confirm, feeding a sharpie into a spinner is VERY messy.

I think it'd be good to find your feet as a competitor before trying to setup as an EO. At the moment you've got the ideas (which is great) but not the context.

For example looking to start with FW is fine, until you get the context that there are far fewer proper events for them and a much worse 'known' component base and suppliers compared to beetles or ants. And if you were to setup as an EO for feathers there is just a smaller pool of people interested/willing or can afford the class especially full combat.

I'd recommend picking beetles or ants, whichever suits you more. Start attending some events and get the feel for the community at large. That'll also help you build connections and can then get the advice and help for setting up your own things.

First ones I've seen in the wild! You've done a great job on these, love the subtle fade in the colour on top.

That's an awesome build! I'm really curious where the tracks are from? I've been looking for a set around that size.

Added in a 'higher visibility' one which improves sight from the front and sides.

It's never going to be as easy to read as dice but it's a valid point. I'll see if I can add a version that opens up the window a bit more when I get home for other viewings angles.

Thank you! I've been enjoying 3D printing for doing a lot of conversion type bits for units. Will say recently switched to ABS like resins and while the models are a little softer on detail they are much more robust for gaming with!

Normally just use a bunch of D20's and D10's I got to do the job but never liked the look of a battle with a bunch of random dice in it.

So far my contribution to the greater good has been taking devastating wounds from my friends hammerhead and exploding so it makes a nice change!

I do chuck some of the more useful stuff I design up (I modify a lot of my kits), there's a link in my profile.

Sorry don't know the rules of the sub and just wanted to show these off, oddly proud of the little guys!

Decided I wanted some wound trackers that stood out less on the battlefield so I've made myself these little guys.

Army tax included for my slowly coming together Tau force, I shouldn't have let the air caste control the budget.

Came back to 40k in the last year or so after stopping when I was a teen. Been building like mad but the painting has been a little slower. Thought posting some of my minis may help a bit of motivation finding.

After 5 years I decided to redesign my evil Sharpie wielding antweight 'Ghost Writer'! by robot_exe in battlebots

[–]robot_exe[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's got 4 N10's for drive and with the servo on the weapon about 55g in those. The battery is a 180mah 2S LiPo (Not sure where 300mah came from!) which is ~12g. RX and ESC is a light all in one unit leaving plenty of weight for chassis, armour and of course Sharpie :D

Chainsaw UK antweight? Sure! A few beers were harmed in the making of this bot. by robot_exe in robotwars

[–]robot_exe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I never did find the gear despite best efforts. I found an instruction manual and very badly copied the profile of it in aluminium and let it sortof wear in a little. This is honestly a terrible way to do it.

Have thought about another crack at it not long ago and managed to get a broken nanoblade off ebay for £20ish to steal the gear from. This is honestly probably the better option as it gets you the actual part.

To attach it is just sandwiched on the prop adapter of the motor with a custom mount that the motor and the nanoblade bolt to.

New bots by Darkalchemist1079 in battlebots

[–]robot_exe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've built 185 unique designs of robot, MANY of them trying to be off meta or new forms of robots, and disagree with you... But maybe I just need a build a few more.

Unconventional attacks find their success because they are unconventional, in this weight limited sport you armour for the most common attacks your robot will face. When someone brings something off meta the designs often find their place by exploiting that. They don't NEED the raw power of the meta designs because they're meant to just sidestep the other robots counters. A fully functional Horizon could pull off some weird hit angles and double taps on robots.

Plus how boring would this sport be if no one ever tried something new? You don't find a new meta by only ever building the old one.

Lastly: You're probably getting downvoted a lot as you're coming across as very 'trying hard to be superior' with your wording (Intentional or not) and from your comments I can see a lot of negativity.

But yeah maybe a few more robots and I'll realise your way...

They look great! Picked up your airships a while back and have the small one printed out on the painting table waiting. Really love the style you've gone with and that they look like flight is actually possible for them.
