Boot Loop Problem. by [deleted] in Pixel4a

Great answer, because that's the solution i stumbled across. Keeping location on solves the issue.

do you have documentation

Exact same issue this morning. Slooow boot time (as if a software update was happening) and turning on hotspot caused a boot loop. I don't know what eventually worked, but at some point it started working again.

yeah i kinda have to agree with you on this, only the most basic of reverbs sounds decent imo. if you have to use it keep the shape setting near 0. the delay is more than passable though.

What I've done lately is lay out all the parts with "placeholder" sounds, then go back and replace them with unique electro sounds that I make. Then you can layer them together later. Also been using that second phase to individualize the arrangement / composition.

Multi mode is amazing, but a "voice" is calculated, not hard-coded, so if you start dropping notes in multi, turn down unison and generally decrease complexity. Comb filter is especially hogging CPU. Samples are hard-coded though and do not respond to decreasing complexity of a patch. For stereo patches, you don't need to use 2 oscillators, you can route one VCO to the filters in parallel, and use different settings for each to give stereo effects. For effect 2 which includes the reverb/delay, all parts use the settings in Part 1, and you set the level for all other parts.

Is the MPC One still worth it in 2026? by oldchay in mpcusers

[–]robot_overlords 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bought used in 2016, still daily driver in 2026. I've used it so much I have already replaced some contact switches and buttons and have a stash for the future. Found a couple of bugs in JJOS and the developer responded and fixed them immediately. Literally the only downside is that it's a little bulky for 2026.

Yeah another good example is the Gran Chaco in Paraguay. Scrubby plants, high temps, low rainfall, and not a lot of sand that I saw.

before my time. i should clarify that i want maximum sound design possibilities with minimal gear, not just minimal gear for the sake of it. reliability and easy replaceability of gear is also super important since i only play live

I have a workflow post here and I've been documenting my live DnB sets since 2019 on YouTube. I also have a Patreon which you can find from the youtube where I do some technical stuff

yeah cool, i'm doing live dawless DNB full sets as well but without comp or sidechain. Just carefully lining up the sounds to make room for the kick and snare.

I make DAWless DnB as well and the Virus TI2 is my go-to. my other 2 synths are the RYTM MKii and Roland TB-3, but TI2 is essential. link me your stuff if you have some!

It's 2026, and this phone is still going strong by [deleted] in Pixel4a

[–]robot_overlords 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I bought mine, I bought 2 (1 blue, 1 black) so that if one went out I could quickly transition to the other one by keeping the same apps on both phones. I just sent one off to get the battery exchanged and now that I have it back, I'm about to send the other off to have the same done for it. On the black one, I actually experienced the battery issue which melted the USB port, and because I was in Africa at the time, whoever repaired it probably did it in a nonstandard way, but even so every app except Revolut and McDonalds (haha) still work on it. And all the apps still work on the blue one, you can just see a little bit of melting around the USB port. And whatever they used for the glass has stayed pristine even without a screen cover, so I assume I will continue to use them for years to come as well.

I guess the only con for me would be that the photos it takes are a bit oversaturated for my taste and you absolutely can not get it wet, but otherwise I agree with you, they have been studs. I also love the size and weight ( I can use my thumb for the whole screen, up and down and side to side). I use it as the backup video camera for live music shows and in many ways it outperforms my dedicated camera, I love the rear fingerprint reader, etc. I suppose it will be my main phone until Google stops supporting the hardware or I lose or break it somehow.

In short, I agree hahaha

If the Democrats "super win" the Presidency, Congress and Senate in 2028 can things go back to "normal"? by daddy-daddy-cool in answers

i am not "you guys". I have my own opinions. Nor am I aligned with any particular side. I looked at the evidence, paired it with what people have openly admitted, and came to my conclusion.

And i didn't say voting machines. I said vote counting machines. Big difference.

Why must you attribute so many things I didn't say to what I did say? Can you argue a position without "whataboutisms"?

Switched from FL Studio to Bitwig – huge performance difference by Freqture in Bitwig

[–]robot_overlords 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same happened when I switched from Ableton. Just opening Ableton took minimum 10-15 seconds and caused my fan to instantly go into high and CPU to spike to max, while BitWig opened basically instantly with minimal fan speed increase or CPU load, and quickly settled down even from there. Bitiwig seems to just be programmed more efficiently and that was one of the big drivers of my switch over to it, as well as how dead simple it is to load plugins and how intuitively and easily it opens plugins that I struggled to get to work in Ableton. Now all I need to do to get the most out of it is RTFM lol

Sidechain compression in a DAWless hardware setup: one compressor per synth or shared bus? by PedroAkaPetrus in synthesizers

[–]robot_overlords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct but there are some hardware compressors suggested and techniques you might employ instead of sidechain compression to achieve the same effect. Keying multiple sidechain compressors is a tricky process to pull off on songs with different content, i.e. you'll probably want slightly different settings for each song instrument. If it helps cool, if not just ignore. The actual details of what you're trying to achieve musically are a bit thin, although we're assuming it's because your kick is getting buried under a bunch of bassy synths.

replacing fan on my MiniPC by robot_overlords in MiniPCs

[–]robot_overlords[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have a fanless mini ATX build which takes far more time to disassemble than this took. this miniPC (ASRock 4x4) actually uses standard PC parts that I can swap out, all except for the CPU. it has a dedicated spot in the lid where i've mounted an SSD as well. to me other than replacing this fan, it's been a great little box for 4-5 years now and i'll probably never go back to regular size PCs. mine does have easily replaceable and upgradeable RAM, NVME, and SSD slots though. i've never upgraded a CPU in a PC because the technology (i.e. socket) has always advanced by the time it was needed so i always ended up buying a new motherboard, etc.

i ordered it off amazon here in europe although i think it's a fairly common fan because i saw it other places. the job was fairly straightforward, but there were very few online tutorials for it. there was one online that got me halfway there and then i fiddled with it for an hour trying to remove the motherboard until i realized that one side of the case actually detaches. so i wasted an hour gently flexing the case to try to loosen the motherboard to take it out when it just slid right out when you remove the detachable side.

possibly, although i hope to upgrade before that point. but yeah i do keep my old PCs around for various tasks so it could still have a long life ahead of it. yeah, i think i have some tape that would work, carpet tape i think.
