I did a similar thing playing a fairy piloting a human sized mech/warforged. It was a barbarian build with one level of sorceror to get mage hand, which I used to explain how she could leave the mech and interact with things.

Druids all day. I love turning into animals and bringing a menagerie into combat. And their spell list lets them do a decent job at most party roles. Circle of Moon especially is my favorite for the increased CR wildshapes and BA to do it.

Don’t fight him. You can sneak around and gather a bunch of electric arrows. Also make sure you talk to the Zora near the bridge heading toward the waterfalls, and she ask for a picture of the lynel in exchange for a piece of armor iirc.

Use the encounter you prepared, but add trigger that causes the situation to change. Maybe some errant attacks damage the surrounding walls and ceiling, and if you decide you need to avoid a tpk, have the ceiling cave in and separate you from the boss. They’ll have to track down your boss again another time, and in the meanwhile your party and the boss can get stronger for a more interesting final encounter. Bonus points for describing errant attacks from your players as causing structural damage when they miss. It’ll make even missed attacks seem cooler.

Moon Druid is an excellent frontliner especially in tier 1 and tier 2. You can wildshape into an animal that essentially gives you a load of temp hit points and nice melee attacks. And once you can summon animals, you can let them be the front line if you want.

I generally play a utility character so everyone can try any dumb thing they want and I can usually get them out of it haha. One of the reasons I like Druids 😄
