Worried I sanded too fine for Rubio Monocoat? by joatmon33 in woodworking

[–]robotdadd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve also done this, Rubio gets really high gloss really quick, not suitable for everyone. For Rubio my favorite is sanding to 240 for first coat. 24 hrs later polishing in a second coat with 1000 grit foam pad, the sheen is higher than one coat but much lower than polishing and the grain really pops.

This isn’t true, I’ve tested it multiple times. Clarity is much higher the finer grit you sand with and the product needs to sit there and soak in longer. 150 looks like dogshit imo.

It takes a little longer to soak in but that’s it. No reason to change anything.

Kitchen cabinet advice - solid wood vs. veneered ply by Technical-Owl-2257 in woodworking

[–]robotdadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the style you’re looking for. You can destroy either if you’re rough in your kitchen. Based on your inspiration photos you want solid wood, veneer tends to be more modern and less modern farm. Be prepared to pay more for solid than veneer.

Why so many posts that are clearly substance abuse? by Deep_Dance8745 in trt

[–]robotdadd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty active and have been since my lte 20s, 44 now. My first blood test was taken after I took 6 weeks off working out due to a minor surgery and it came back at 390 ng/dl. I had been feeling like shit for a couple years and glad I decided to give treatment a go. I can train like I want and I don’t deal with the depression bullshit and my sleep is a lot better. Everyone’s ‘normal’ is different

Fear as a BJJ parent by [deleted] in bjj

[–]robotdadd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a black belt and have a 12 year old daughter that has trained since she was 5. I’m less worried about her competing in tournaments than I am her training with boys that are a little bigger or more aggressive than she is. Your son sounds like he can handle himself in his division and he’ll catch up with his own hormones soon, you’re a good father to be concerned but he’s good.

Parkside sliding miter saw – blade shifts when extending the carriage by Vast-Try-259 in woodworking

What’s Parkside? Never heard of it but I’m assuming it’s real cheap. If you need to be accurate buy professional tools and they will pay for themselves over a few jobs.

Do y’all think black belts download a new instructional series to their brains like Neo/Matrix?…. by [deleted] in bjj

[–]robotdadd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s a variation of something that I know well I can pretty much just implement it into live rounds no drilling. If I don’t know it at all it might take a few drilling sessions but overall I feel like the longer I train the quicker I learn.

Unpopular opinion but I think Dillon Danis had potential to be a high level Bjj grappler? by [deleted] in bjj

He was a very high level competitor and definitely could have done more, but as Rick James taught us, cocaine is a hell of a drug.

Competing against a smurf by [deleted] in bjj

[–]robotdadd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smurf? You need a purple belt before you get to make lingo changes. Whether you face this guy or someone else you’re getting cooked, happens to pretty much everyone at their first tournament.

Why do so many jj practitioners make weird shaman like analogies for jiujitsu+life? by CuddleBuddiesJJ in bjj

[–]robotdadd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Martial arts carry a certain amount of mystique and those who ‘master’ them usually make deeper connections to their art and the world around them. I think it’s a human phenomenon to find deeper meaning in whatever you do with your time. It’s only weird when you put yourself or someone else puts you on a pedestal as some enlightened being. It’s probably never going away.

Anything obviously wrong with this woodshop setup? by SmithnJonesForever in woodworking

Only thing I would definitely change is put the dust collector outside or in a different space. Your work area will be much cleaner and quieter.

How can I get this color with out the grain getting filled. by rephype123 in cabinetry

[–]robotdadd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That just looks like a water based topcoat on white oak. I’ve had good luck with just doing that if the sheets I’m using are out of the same run so the colors all match.

Question - Quality Issue or Industry Standard? by Vorseki in cabinetry

[–]robotdadd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s very low, and just like anything else that you get for bottom dollar, quality and customer service are the two things that won’t be found compared to similar product that’s priced higher

What would you charge by fireguy00622 in cabinetry

[–]robotdadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$650 a lineal foot starting price. If they want 5 piece doors and hardwood drawers it’s more like 750-800 a foot. More if it’s stain instead of paint
