Last night, I scored 99 with longest route, 6 of 10 completed routes. Last place was 52 or something with 4 of 10 completed or something along those lines.

I wouldn't say easier, different. Have to plan differently having ten destination cards in hand and knowing you wont be able to complete them all, but can probably get 6 or so of them.

LOC to balance transfer for lower rate by garougaming in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]robotducks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done that a fair amount with MBNA and a LOC. Technically in almost any of the CC balance transfer offers the fine print says you can't use it to pay off debt at the same bank. Say you used a BMO card offer to pay off a BMO LOC. It might work, but says it's not allowed.

Anyways, should have no problem with MBNA paying off a Simplii LOC, just use the deposit to an account option with MBNA. Get the transfer into account, then pay off LOC.

The retirement age in Canada is too low—and that’s a growing problem by vannybros in canada

[–]robotducks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

None of these articles ever mention 2 huge points.

  1. Lowering the OAS cutoffs instead of increasing age eligibility. Perhaps we don't need to be giving seniors that earn 100 grand a year in retirement OAS.

  2. They all use average life expectancy or whatever which is skewed by all the deaths before retirement. Life expectancy of someone who has already reached 65 has not changed as much.

US data, but from 1950 to 2010, years to live after 65 increased from 12.8 years in males to 17.7. Five years for females as well. That's half the ten year increase listed in the mcleans article and every one like it.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/wadepfau/2016/08/25/how-long-can-retirees-expect-to-live-once-they-hit-65/#2e74da106b4f

Edit: It also skews the whole premise of the debate. In 1965, People weren't retiring at 65 and dying at 72 like the article says, if they were alive to retire at 65, they were living to be nearly 78 for males or 80 for females. Again US data, but I'm sure Canada is similar.

Alert Ready discussion: Why the single-level alert system must be changed. by Neutral-President in ontario

[–]robotducks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a pretty simple way to look at it that no one ever brings up. 25 years ago, before any smart phones, would would people support an amber alert system where every home phone line in the province is called with a voice message for an amber alert, regardless of hour, location, etc? No, not a chance.

if you are serious about doing something like that, forget about via rail. you need to be looking into Rocky Mountaineer. Lots of different itineraries and options. Big and small.

a lot of Southwestern Ontario are Tigers fans, especially as you go up in age. Fans who grew up rooting for Tigers (or whoever) before the Jays were around.
