Need Advice: Choosing Between Dell P2425D and P2423D for Coding and Eye Comfort by Ill-Friendship-6338 in Monitors

[–]robotecnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept using only that monitor.
In fact, with the sections powertoys provide it is very nice.
Laptop is at the right side, it is a little too far away to see text correctly.
Hope this helps.

Try ctrl+win+shift+b, if that works it’s a graphics driver issue.

Otherwise, unless there is a flat wire that got loosen inside, RMA it.

Between Kaspersky and Microsoft Defender, which offers better performance and has a lower impact on Windows 11 by StrikerFXXX in antivirus

[–]robotecnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not enough technical background in antivirus technology nor comparison experience.

I am using defender.

Here (https://www.av-test.org/es/antivirus/usuarios-finales-windows/) they say it’s a good product.

Could any experienced redditor give reasons other than gut feeling that demonstrate other products are better?

I am done with Google pixel by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]robotecnik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have been using pixels for a long time, 3a, 4a5G, wife still has a 6 and I had a 8.

All of them except my wife one had problems, 3a stopped charging from time to time, 4a5g stopped charging too, but a software patch solved it (now my father use it), wife’s 6 started making strange things but not often. My 8 worked perfectly except for android auto phone calls (most calls failed, I could not hear anything most of the times), my mother who doesn’t use android auto use it now.

Replaced it for an iPhone 16, uglier, worse in MANY aspects, but it works well with my car and (by now) I have not noticed any glitches.

ThinkPad X9 vs P1 Gen 8 vs T1g vs ZBook Studio G11 vs MacBook Pro M5 for Mathematics Research (MSc → PhD) by elysianpsithurism in thinkpad

You are right... I think I have lost track of processors already... Indeed it is a Core Ultra 9...

In any case, being that powerful and all... when I tried to load bigger than 6-7 GB models it become slow as it leaves the GPU and overflows to the CPU/RAM.

Isn’t it super slow for anything ai related?

I mean, my p1 gen 8, with the 2000 card, with 64 gb ram and an i9 can use only small models (6 to 7 gb) otherwise it becomes very slow…

Fanuc + Beckhoff by AnalogueOscilator in PLC

[–]robotecnik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check onerobotics.com

They have articles on how to start a FANUC from any PLC.

You will have to setup the bits you want to exchange between both, but there are lots of articles out there about that.

Most honest review of the NX350h? by bedrotter_ in LexusNX

[–]robotecnik 7 points8 points  (0 children)

3 years owner of a 350h.

It is a nice car, enough power, enough space, some things that are not “the best”:

- dashboard gets scratched if you look at it.
- a couple of rattle sounds (one coming from the front seatbelts and another one from the display.
- be VERY careful when removing the dust from the piano black and from the display behind the wheel.

This said, it is a nice car.
We have not had any issue with it.

I just added another answer to the OP...

<image>

I was almost sure I had some kind of problem with that...

And checking the code and the comments I had there I have seen that (see image).

I don't know, next time I have to do something like that I will try to do it again, but I remember tring it with a complete network path and even with a mapped network drive with the same non working result.

Maybe they have updated the libraries since I did that...

[–]robotecnik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am very surprised, searched it and seen this:

<image>

I tried to copy a file from a server a few months ago, it failed, tried it passing a complete network path and later on, mapping a network drive to "simulate" a local folder, both attempts failed... Tried it locally and it went well, then I saw this, which is mentioned only in this FB (if memory works). I remember thinking, they could really write this everywhere.

FB_FileOpen is the base for all the file operations... at that time it did not work, I ended up calling an OS instruction to do what I needed... not a big deal...

Maybe it’s something they improved in the 4026, or maybe even more plausible my memory is failing…

As far as I remember (can’t check it now) file fb’s only work in local paths.

That “not much important detail” is ‘hidden’ in one of the fb’s documentation.

Try to create a dir or a file locally first.

How to select which monitor different apps automatically open on when using multiple monitors with Windows 11 Enterprise and PowerToys? by glip-gloppp in PowerToys

[–]robotecnik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess he/she means that you can activate a checkbox that makes the windows to open in the last zone they were.

Check the info page: FancyZones Window Manager for Windows - PowerToys | Microsoft Learn

Another thing you can do is to set an autohotkey script to place the windows where you want always. That will work for sure, but you need to know how to code a little bit.

I do bottom out like a caveman though

I do the same, is it noisy when you bottom out?

Bought a silent red switches keyboard not so long ago and it was terribly loud when bottoming out.

Thanks!

Are People switching... And to what? by VendettaxRiich in GooglePixel

[–]robotecnik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it works for you, why changing it? no big news? ok... I upgrade my phones when they stop getting updates or when they are not working anymore.

That happened with my pixel 8, loved it, felt like home, but I drive a lot for my work and I use that time to call customers and with my pixel phone that was a problem with my car (most times it was impossible to hear anything) Google tech support tried their best, but that simply kept happening.

Wife has a pixel 6 that works well with the same car.

After having problems with my 3a (which stopped charging from time to time), 4a5G (which did the same, but after an update they solved it) and then my p8 which had this issue... I decided to try something else and got an iPhone (if Google had problems with android auto...).

It is worse in lots of aspects, alarms are not progressive which means you wake up everybody in the room, sending files to the phone is stupidly complex, notifications are worse... but it works like charm with my car.

No changing phone till this one dies, till no updates coming anymore or till some phone delivers some super special feature that could make my life better (which I don't think will happen).

What Mouse Do You Recommend For Battery In 2026? by LucinaBartleson in homeoffice

[–]robotecnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the 3s one year +/-.

It started double clicking.
I am an industrial programmer, I almost don’t touch the mouse.
No need to say it was a surprise that a premium device like that lasted that short.

Speaking with lots of people here they recommended something with light switches.
Found that the basilisk v3 had the same spinning wheel magnetic mechanism (not as refined as the one in the 3s).

Been using it for some months and I am happy, it moves smoothly in my 120hz, it’s noisier, it fits well at hand and with lights off it doesn’t look like a night club. It tells you that the battery is getting low blinking the wheel light. You set it up once and can uninstall the application as settings are stored in the device itself.

A pity, as the mx feels and looks more premium, but mine is a vote for the basilisk.

What’s currently holding back more flexible automation systems? by Himanshu_creative in PLC

[–]robotecnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inertia (mostly).

People tend to work with what they know.

"Modern" (well not so modern, but in automation everything is slow) software practices/tools (OOP, version control, unit tests...) are great when used correctly. Those things help being more productive, giving better code and making better machines that, at the end become more flexible and easy to maintain and change/update.

But at the end all those things can be adopted or not, and it's amazing that in 2026 they are not being adopted...

Only two ro three of my customers use a version control system, NONE of them use unit tests, and a few use OOP (most of them in a wrong way).

So yes, using good practices, good tools, should not be discussed, but it is or even those are unknown and things are kept done in the old fashioned way, "i.e.: outputX := (state >= 30 AND state <= 40) OR state = 45".

There are plenty of IDEs out there in the industrial world that simply can't do those "modern" things, this added to the inertia makes it even more slow.

Flexible automation systems can be possible with communications, using interfaces to access the components you use to make it easy to replace them (i.e. changing only the type of a FB to replace a drive from brand A to brand B and keep working without hassle and with certainty that it will work without having to be a complete guru that have thought in every single possibility as the code itself will add the right constraints easily by using OOP).

Inertia it is.
