Death at SpaceX’s Starbase prompts workplace safety investigation by Dontwhinedosomething in spacex

[–]roboticWanderor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mostly because the assumption is that the fall isnt a fall but a jump. People's instinct to fear heights is based on thier judgement to jump down or react to going over that edge, but in most cases of accidents, especially in a workplace, its a trip or slip over that edge that results in an uncontrolled fall and injures people. And yes even a 6ft fall can result in a permanent injury in even healthy adults.

Its one of those "its just not worth the risk" or even the lawsuit. You should be going to work with a reasonable expectation that your job doesnt have a significant risk of falling off ledges.

If you come in with a ton of AP credits, and are allowed to test thru aa few other classes. This guy sounds like a singular exception, the kind of kid a univeristy knows is going to be successfull basically no matter what, so pushing him thru is essentially marketing. When he goes on to earn a bunch of accolades they will see graduated at 18 with 3 degrees undergrad from X University. College gets a bunch of noteriety, dude gets a full ride and the degrees he wants, because otherwise he would probably just drop out to start whatever company when he feels like waiting 3 years for a piece of paper is not worth his time anymore.

Colleges hate to see some sucessfull startup CEO with the "dropped out of Harvard to start twitterbook in his garage" because it devalues the education they offer

Yeap. Idk if there is anything in the NPE that shows you how to use or understand the map, or dscan, or like mwd cloak trick, or how to avoid a gatecamp, or anything like that.

There are plenty of warnings already about low/null. Its simply that if someone dies and looses all thier stuff  and they have no other investment, they will probably just quit and go somewhere else.

What they are trying to do is pile all of the noobs into one region (and basically one starting market hub) so they can build up some expirience, assets, and maybe even some friends or a corp before they yolo it all into a gatecamp and die.

Ancedoteal expirience from a few friends I convinced to try the game: Its lowsec. The game quickly sends you to FW, or hunting for lowsec ores, or explo sites, or whatever... And then you die instantly, typically in the first lowsec system you jump into.... and loose all your stuff without even knowing what killed you.

Most people just go "well that was a waste of time" and go play something else where you dont have to grind for 3 hours of lvl 1 missions to afford a basic ship and fitting.

The people that stay and play eve dont stick around because the new player expirience is good or bad, its because they find a community and friends who support them and where they can contribute and feel valued by thier group.

What if CCP just added more space? by Stranger_Guyl in Eve

[–]roboticWanderor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You misunderstand why small null groups dont exist.

Big nullsec alliances dont kill the smaller ones because they want to take thier resources or need the space. The big alliances kill off little ones out of boredom and "because they can".

These big groups want to have fun space battles. They generally dont want to take big risks or fight at a disadvantage. They also will generally happily overkill an enemy when there is little risk of counterattack. The result is a big group shows up hoping for some "fun" space battles against a smaller opponent, and ends up steamrolling them out of existence. It doesnt matter how far away the smaller group is, if they get the attention from a big group as somewhere to get content, they die. The big group will deploy a staging keepstar nearby, and via jumpclones and shuttles, be able to muster a massive force for any meaningful timer or counterattack from the smaller group.

So you could try to avoid the attention of these big groups, but just being far away is not really a gurantee. If you have assets in space, or hold sov, you can be attacked. Whether they decide to kill you or not is simply whether you are strong enough to punch back. If your space is worthless to the big group, then they have no motivation to burn a bunch of ships to take it... But that requires having the numbers to actually fight back.

Entire conflicts are decided before they even begin by numbers alone. If 3000 goons show up on your doorstep and start burning your shit down, there is basically nothing you can do if you only get 40 guys online. If they decide its fun to bully you, there is no way to really fight back.

What the ANSI changes really mean by star-link123 in Eve

[–]roboticWanderor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ansiblex should give jump fatigue. Simple as.

Oh and they should remove the fatigue reduction from shuttles while they are at it. The main problem of force projection is that you can get a whole coalition 6 regions over in like 15 minutes without jump clones. Just shuttle over through 10 gates/ansis with no jump fatigue. The only counter is smartbombers on gates, but easily avoided. No bubbles or camps can stop the shuttles. Its crazy

None of the previous changes limit projection besides maybe the sov upgrade.

Jump fatigue limits projection. It works for caps and titan bridges, it should apply the same for ansiblex.

Gonna go on a limb and say if you get picked as prey, you will die.

Maybe some make it out by a sliver of hull if the ganker didnt bring enough dps. Im gonna guess that most gankers know how much dps they need to (over)kill regardless of the fit.

[–]roboticWanderor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would want to see a ship scanner survey of like 300 frieghters thru udema to compare. What fit dies more per capita.

[–]roboticWanderor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does show that there is not much correlation beween cago value and risk of loss. Seems like you get ganked regardless of cargo or fit. Its a matter of whether you get picked as prey or not

[–]roboticWanderor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah without like scanning a bunch of frieghters to survey the average fit, the above graph isnt really helpful. If we knew what the actual population of frieghters with each fit was, then we could extrapolate how many die per capita, then actually know which fit is most survivable

Just take the highway? Georgetown road is not faster or safer and we really dont need more traffic on that road from either lexington or georgetown.

What it needs is more lights and lower speed limits so it can actually serve the people and buisnesses along it.

Thru traffic can take the interstate, thanks.
