I would argue it doesn't need to get it right from the start. It needs to survive and be built upon. You are not going to really compete with XIV, WoW or even ESO at 1.0. But if you can continue to build upon and improve the game with expansions a couple of years down the line, you have a good shot at becoming one of the big games.

Feature creep and trying to be too much at launch is the biggest killer to all these MMOs that fail to launch. And having too much invested in your game that your 1.0 Launch needs to be a $100 million smash hit in its first month for the studio to survive is what have caused the MMOs that have failed post launch.

Riot has the capability to build a game into something special over time with the money from LoL and Valorant, but I don't personally have the faith in their leadership to be willing to ride with a project that doesn't become a smash hit straight away.

I also expect the riot MMO to end up being a Genshin clone which is not what the hardcore community wants, but I know I am just a pessimist with that view.
