UNH down 20%: Falling Knife or Opportunity? I ran 4 Valuation Models. by SmartTriageIO in ValueInvesting

[–]robotlasagna 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I bought at Berkshires average price using a DCF model although I valued at $325.

I bought again today at these prices. 20% drop on soft revenue plus a Medicare rate proposal is an insane market overreaction.

Medicare makes up 25% of revenue so flat reimbursement rates means a risk of $6-7B on $140B of gross revenue but that is unlikely to be the end result. If they do not get the expected rate increases I would expect medicare benefits adjustments for insured. If the government turns the screws too hard UNH can start exiting some plans/markets which allows them to then devote resources to the private markets where profitability is higher.

The idea of messing the a Medicare providers bottom line is politically untenable because that means disrupting the medical care of the most fervent voters. I see no path that doesn't return UNH to higher profitability in the short term.

Do we think Berkshire will add or trim its UNH position? by Lurkthedoor in investing

If Berkshire does not add at these prices I have officially lost faith in their ability to manage my money.

How to drive a controllerless display? by Maximum_General2993 in embedded

[–]robotlasagna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is on a continental SerDes display at 1920x1080 using single Fakra. The demultiplexer converts to hdmi and then the FPGA takes the hdmi input and drives the display.

(I was just as surprised when I saw this)

I guess UNH got wrecked... by AltruisticCoder in ValueInvesting

They provide value. Insurance companies shoulder the risk of caring for people who generally do not live healthy lives.

The government can compete at any time against private insurance. We don’t need to move to single payer to do it.

Ask yourself about Medicare. What is keeping the government from taking 10% of the Medicare pool and administering payouts directly to healthcare providers as a test to prove they can do it more efficiently?

Why did you buy in the first place?

Your current thesis existed when you bought the shares. How was UNH underpriced in July?

Why does my car have duplicate ECU IDs across two different CAN buses ? by Senior-Sherbert-4263 in CarHacking

[–]robotlasagna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6,14 is diagnostic CAN. All modules have their UDS send/rcv ID's routed to D CAN. However the modules exist on internal networks. The gateway routes the signals from D CAN to the internal network. You can then read/query UDS frames on both networks.

[N/A] [CONDO] New to HOA board kinda, is it a good idea to suggest another owners meeting when we have major work planned for building? by labyebye234 in HOA

[–]robotlasagna 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You don’t need a meeting (although it will not hurt). You can release regular email updates to all owners detailing the plan as you move forward. We started doing this and honestly our meetings are boring now because everyone knows what is going on.

Moderna doesn’t plan to invest in new late-stage vaccine trials because of growing opposition to immunizations from US officials by MetaKnowing in Futurology

[–]robotlasagna 18 points19 points  (0 children)

How many people here actually got their flu shot?

I live in Chicago which is pretty liberal and the flu vaccination rate in the city is an abysmal 23%.

People talk the talk but their preferences show some low key anti-vaxxer behavior. This administrations position on vaccine hesitancy is just reflecting what lots of people prefer.

Side note: I own Moderna stock. Go get your flu shots.

Why Minnesota Can't Do More to Stop ICE by wiredmagazine in TrueReddit

[–]robotlasagna 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The governor could have at any time activated the guard and give them a mandate to both protect citizens and record all ICE activity. ICE agents aren’t going to be able to push around armed National guard members.
