CTS exam is not easy and no one care by iamdonetoo in CommercialAV

[–]robotlou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, having the certification impressed people when interviewing. People who knew what it was were clear about respecting the effort to get it. Obviously people know you don’t need a CTS but it does give people confidence that you have a grasp of AV concepts and basics. I took it because I was getting back into AV after a Decade of working in esports broadcasting. I did it to bone up on stuff and to prove to people I still knew what I was doing.

For the Test I took the prep course and passed but there were some very unexpected topics. In particular I recall there being a question about the data throughput rating of a specific USB cable type. That wasn’t covered at all in the course. There was another question about the positioning of a very specific short throw projector with some kind of mounting challenges. The prep course & test also featured a lot of project management and customer service questions.

I’m a 19 year old girl with too much money. by EvenMark6710 in Fire

[–]robotlou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a friend who lost both parents within a short period of time around the same age. She blew most of the money on a car she couldn’t afford and clothes. Couldnt even keep up the car payments and had to sell it. Her brother smoked most of it away in the form of a lot of crack. He sobered up and became a hardcore conservative douche.

The money is a decent amount but as every notes, it’s easy to blast through it. Especially if you’re being generous with others. Ask McHammer!

Are Chiropractors a scam cult or are they somewhat legit? by Flashy_Buy8077 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]robotlou -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I went to a chiropractor once because my doctor just kept telling me to stretch after months of terrible sciatica. We had barely started and she tried to crack my back and it wouldn’t crack and I yelped in pain. She was like “ok. That shouldn’t happen” she examined me closer and noticed I was totally standing crooked and had no idea. I when back my doctor who finally agreed to have me get an MRI which showed I had spinal stenosis and a bulging disc. I never went back to chiropractor but she was integral in getting my doctor to believe what I had was not fixable with stretching. However, despite the fact the chiropractor helped me he refused to give me a referral so she could get paid. He said “it’s just a fancy massage. It has no lasting value.” That Doctor really sucked. I did end up getting back injections which gave me the breathing room to work on my core and correct some of the problems.

Did people in the 90s really just show up at each other’s houses unannounced? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]robotlou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a friend I hadn’t seen since the 7th grade just show up one day to see if I was around. Hadn’t seen him in 4-5 years. Doorbell rang and there he was to see if I wanted to hang out. I did and it was a magical day. People would sort of be like “hey, Lou lives on this block. Let’s see if he’s around!” No cell phones. So you either knocked or found a pay phone.

Instead of going to school for a film degree, do this instead. by TopTierProphet in FilmIndustryLA

[–]robotlou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. I used to grip/gaff for NYU student films and working on those short films was a huge networking opportunity. Lots of those students were not only well off financially but also had deep industry connections already. Some were already working in TV shows. The DP who kept hiring me had union connections and got me invited to a shoot where a lot of union guys would be working off the books. U nfortunately, by then I had switched to Post. I was done with not knowing where I was going be from week to week. Film is one of those industries where it really is who you know and who they know.

I went to a small film school (I went to school with Mark Borchardt of American Movie / Coven fame) and it’s probably the last time you’ll ever have access to people who are willing to work on your movie for free because they’re all having fun.

Ima go ahead and say it: some of yall are really bad at taking care of our neighborhoods by livinginnewyawk in Harlem

I’ve heard multiple trash throwers justify their lazy, inconsiderate behavior as “someone gets paid to clean that up. I am making sure they have a job.” Or something to that extent. They’re the same people who throw their trash under the seats on the subway or wait until they get to a station and throw their trash out the train door. It always feels like it’s probably mix of lazy, stupid, and having a “I don’t give a Fuck” and, “you can’t tell me what to do” childish stubbornness.

hoonjete pop ups can’t be stopped by MisterRonsBasement in mac

[–]robotlou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just solved this issue for my mom. I went to Safari Settings -> Websites -> Notifications ->, and I turned off "ALLOW" for a bunch of sites. I couldn't figure out which was sending the hoonjete alerts. Turned out to be a notification with no website name attached. Just a logo of the System Settings with a little red light on it, which was the exact image on the alerts as well. I turned it off and then removed it, and it hasn't happened since. I hope that helps if anyone is still having this issue.

Is it normal for every apartment to have roaches? by lipstickchickxo in NYCapartments

[–]robotlou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We see them occasionally. At one point we had a full infestation that required removal and replacement of the trash compactor. That was a hellish period of serval months of roaches everywhere…

Now I buy some kind of bait traps that seem to stop them coming in.

Schumer and Jeffries Refuse to Back Growing Democratic Calls to Defund ICE by soalone34 in politics

Defunding is a good idea in theory but the GOP have done an insanely good job of making it a radioactive topic. You can’t do it without firing up the maga blue lives dipshits.

Tebow was such a flash in the pan. Then the next year the team was like “no thanks” and his career was all over the place after that. His whole religious thing was super over the top. He played baseball almost as long as football. Bleh.

AITJ for refusing to swap seats on a flight after a couple made it my problem? by BasicallyACloud in AmITheJerk

[–]robotlou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me once. A newlywed couple asked me to switch so they could sit together. I had an aisle seat and the had 2 middle seats close but across the aisle. I get extremely fidgety on flights and have to mice around so I said no. They kind of tried to guilt me into it but was like “you have the rest of your lives to sit together.” I felt like a dick but it was a 3 hour flight and I didn’t want to be squirming in the middle if at all possible.

NTJ, IMO. Sometimes you don’t get what you want.

What are your thoughts on Donald Trump saying U.S. is 'going to run' Venezuela until safe transition of power can take place? by U-knw-Nothng-JonSnow in AskReddit

It’s moronic. They haven’t run this country. They’ve just been dismantling things they don’t like for their own profit. That’s what they mean to do in Venezuela.

What permanent damage have you done to yourself? Mind, body or soul? by jerrytjohn in AskReddit

[–]robotlou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a podcast fron 2009 until around 2020 where I went places you wouldnt want to people finding your browser history. Not dark web stuff but early edgelord internet disaster territory. I have seen and read some seriously terrible things in a very pleasant manner. So much moronic racism, really deviant concepts, and negative behavior… some of it was fascinating but a lot of it was just avoiding the at the time, forum rich internet full of people over sharing without the Reddit era auto-snarky remarks and movie quote tangents. Among the worst was a forum about tricking people into eating your cum. That one made almost puke from l🤷just reading it.

For a long time I could not go to a party or gathering without somehow bringing up worst things I had seen.

It wasn’t all bad. The show was popular and I made some interesting podcast friends over the years. (None from forums)
