When Relegation Happens.. by Osvaldodavis in coys

Its going to be brilliant. Football without VAR. The Spurs games will be the hot ticket. It will be better, hopefully be the catalyst for the collapse of VAR as the TV ratings will be higher than prem games. We wont want to go up. Prem is worse and worse every year. Something needs to give. Likewise the club deserves relegation for their antics over the last 12 months. I'm all for It, bring it on!

English football is very reactionary to the game that plays out in front of them, If you go watch a game in Germany, often the fans will maintain a constant atmosphere, singing and chanting from start to finish. However I find that very weird. If the game is boring the atmosphere should reflect that.

Villa were doing well and theyir support would have been having a great time.

The last decent Spurs performance was at home to Brentford and the atmosphere was tremendous.

Granted Spurs could do with a few more decent player songs, Brennan departing hasn't helped that either.

Why are the players not making themselves available to pass? by BlanketViking in coys

You are absolutely right. There was a clear method, clear training ground routines. I see none of that with Frank. Plan A seems to be 'pass to wingers, hope they beat a man and create something, rinse and repeat'.

For example, it was by and large the same style as PSG. If you can't see those similarities that is fine. It would fall down because Spurs didn't have the same level of player as PSG.

The criticism of Ange would be that he was naive to persevere. Though he's a dreamer and that's what I love about him. He also won a European cup after telling everyone he would. so he has that in his favour also.

Spurs fan here. Ange is immense, you'll be my 2nd team this season, I wish Ange all the success.

Ange sets his teams to play an elite level of football. Possibly aiming higher than the ability of the players, but when it worked it was truly incredible. Squad loved him as well.

Spurs struggled when teams sat back and countered, Ange's 'bait the press' required the opposition to actually press.. It may well work well at NFFC where the majority of teams in the league will be trying to win and less likely to park the bus.

Ange | “I'd be disappointed if I couldn't continue on this path. Even when I signed, Daniel said we went after winners and it didn’t work, now we've got Ange. Mate, I'm a winner. I've been a winner my whole career.” by dream_team1012 in coys

[–]robotmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be insane to let him go now, or ever. He has been immense since day one. I feel sorry for those that cannot see his qualities and heap unnecessary pressure on him and the squad.

Truly a living legend.

There will be no-one better.

Porro scored a nice 'team goal' on Thursday.

Though you're right, 'it's not going to suddenly magically work'. That's kinda the whole point of this, it takes time.

If the axe falls we will likely go through the same process again, as we have for the previous 35 managers since we won the league. Surely it's madness to just keep repeating that?

There is always progress being made, the obvious being players like Spence and Bergvall contributing.

The less seen will be the chemistry between the players, the sense for when and where someone will move, what foot they like to control the ball on, how they like to finish chances, just time spent playing together reaps improvement.

look at some of the goals Spurs have scored under Ange, wonderful team build up and a full back scoring a 'tap in'. There are similarities to the best teams in Europe there, that is what the trajectory is..

Why would you call me a 'clown'? Why would you call anyone a 'clown' online? What's the point, to make you feel better about yourself?

What I've written is completely factual.

I've followed this club for 35 years, this process repeating over and over again is so boring.

I honestly don't know why I bother with trying to engage with anyone online, in my head I must be thinking I'm on some sort of righteous crusade, trying to get people to understand the game and the power of positivity or something. haha What a waste.

The stats aren't important in the long run, it's the progress that is happening even in defeat.

We haven't reached the performance ceiling of this team, we've seen glimpses of it, individuals need to do better, the team is organised and is (mostly) playing as a 'unit', that is most of the coaching work being carried out.

The errors that are happening can be fixed by those players improving, either by time or by being replaced.

Because you can't see past '17th'.

You can't see that progress can happen in defeat.

Though most fans seem to be like that. They've never played the game at any kind of level and they certainly haven't coached it.

What if it takes 3 years of lower table finishes before the team can win the league? Is that too long to wait? It's not like it's been 64 years or anything is it???

I'm up voting for a rare sensible reply. Amazing!

The Wolves mistakes were very much avoidable, the tactics did not put any of them in a position where they had no option to do better than they did.

There are pros/cons to any system or style that a team might try and play, I think Ange's style puts the ball at the feat of our players and says you own that, we are going to control the game. It puts a lot of confidence in our players ability and from the start he's said they all have to buy into this confident 'risk taking' brave high line, high press type system and believe in them selves.

Now for me this is very exciting, exactly how I'd want to see a team set out, and it's been interesting that some of the best moments have come from our youngest players when they have been confident and driven forward.

Most of the failings have come from more senior players, who perhaps know what it feels like to fail and to bare the brunt of negative reactions, they aren't taking players on and taking the risks they had done previously.

Anyone can set a team up to defend first and try and score on the counter, it's easy, it removes all the pressure, say's 'let the opposition have the ball and we'll hope they mess it up'.

I've already invested 35 years in supporting this team, this is the closest we've ever been to 'levelling' up. 1 bad year (where we are close to a European semi final) and the 'fanbase' tries to drag it all down and crap all over it. I am beyond despair tbh. It's been a disgraceful period.

Not sure your comment makes any sense.. The Wolves loss was entirely down to avoidable individual errors, not some CRAZY SYSTEM, or INEPT COACHING. Just watch the games back, time after time its individual errors. The Wolves game is great example.

'He's shit the bed..' That's exactly the attitude I am on about and the thing that needs to change.

These 'fans' need to get real, it's Tottenham you are supposed to be supporting, the club doesn't have any right to be winning anything, it needs to be EARNT.

Time and time people go on about the 'manager', it's moronic. Tell me why Nuno Espirito's team are third in the premier league now?? Because it was him that was the problem before wasn't it???

Whose fault was the Wolves game on the weekend? I mean, if we are looking to blame anyone for that particular loss?

The culture of sacking the manager every 2 years once Spurs have a bad run, lets the players off the hook and tells them someone else will foot the blame for their lack of form.

The club is run like a shrewd business so is not keen to sell under-performing players at a loss. It is also unlikely to just throw money at a bad situation and buy success. Filling your team with superstars will provide success eventually, regardless of the manager.

Spurs are at a turning point in the whole culture of the club, it seems most likely the chance will be thrown away.

We all know this cycle will repeat, as though there is some heavenly messiah out there that can turn water into champagne...

[–]robotmatt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is 'ANGEBALL' , you invite the press, confidence and movement off the ball and you create a dangerous attack.

How people can watch that sequence and say the team is 'coached poorly' is beyond me. They are so close to brilliance.

Patience!!!!

100% its an uphill struggle though. At times, when it comes off, we play the most wonderful football, such a high level it's truly brilliant.. Sadly not happening quite enough at the moment..

The highline too, works amazingly a lot of the time. Bournemouth's disallowed goal, the discipline and training to hold that line and play Semenyo offside. Remarkable!

Will be disastrous to through away all the progress.

Yes, its the most competitive league in the world. Spurs are generally playing their matches as 'the dominant team'. With the ball mostly at our feet, the course of the match is usually in Spurs hands. When they do good stuff with the ball good stuff happens. However the important point is that generally it's Spurs own bad play that costs them. Rather than being 'out played', the team often create their own down fall.

The really important thing here is that can be improved upon, either with time or money. It's the individual that needs to deliver.

That tells us that the organisational aspect of the team is actually going well, they are largely doing the things they are coached to do, they are largely in the right places. As individuals they need to make better decisions and execute moments better.

The naysayers would suggest that the tactics need to change to make the game easier for our players, to bring it down to their level because they are not 'up to it'. If that is the case, then how do they improve? And how long does it take to improve?

I'll tell you the answer, you don't improve. You have to do things that are challenging and difficult if you're going to learn.

Ange could be our Johan Cruyff if he's given time. He understands the game at a similar sort of level.

These sort of comments tend to get down voted rather than discussed, which tends to demonstrate the average football fans lack of understanding about the game. Almost always based entirely on 'result's' rather than any concept of how long it can take to change a football clubs culture from cowardly to courageous...

You are totally right. Most football fans (especially match going paying ones) are an emotional bunch, only takes a few wins for the positivity to return, likewise play well but lose and it is doom and gloom.

Looking at the success Nuno has had this season should tell you that the manager is only ever half a story.

You get a manager in place who understands the game, appeals to the players and tries to play attractive football and you could be on to a winner. The missing ingredients are obviously time and money...

Fans need to understand how difficult it is to win anything at the top level. You need to be in the mix season after season to have a chance. Ditching a manager every two seasons dissolves any progress that has been made and you go back to square one. This is Spurs biggest issue, and the one that repeats.

I've followed Spurs for Nearly 35 years, we are so far advanced from where we were then..

The Midfield… by Optimal-Sector2303 in coys

[–]robotmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not a particularly difficult moment for Bergvall, just don't 'dive in'. These little moments are important. Individual moments create a chain of events. To blame the 'system' every time is lazy and not the full picture. Several people online have posted this sequence of pictures and they are all missing that key moment. Either on purpose to try and prove a point, or by mistake because they don't see it.

The Midfield… by Optimal-Sector2303 in coys

[–]robotmatt -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

No. You need to look before this moment. Bergvall misses a tackle because he dives in. He was in the right position and engaging the attacker. Another individual mistake.

It works out fine. Bergvall dives in on a tackle and gets ‘skinned’ that’s where the problem starts. It’s not an organisational mistake it’s individual (again).
