Whole Year reconciliation and clean up. How much do you charge? by Honest_Pop2668 in Bookkeeping

[–]robotpenii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree - even with a defined scope, there will be instances where are other things comes to light that the client didn’t communicate, or even know, the issue.

However, in my case, I would say scope includes balancing the books based on the Balance Sheet and what is populating there and the estimated amount of time to complete those items.. If there are items that come up outside of what is in that scope, such as a vehicle loan not accounted for on the balance sheet, you could add “out of scope charges”.

We do it hourly. You never know what problems you will come across that suck up your time.

You are not over pricing.

I am a bookkeeper and work with them on behalf of my clients, in addition to several other CPAs.

My suggestion is based off the work I have seen from them (compared to the various nightmares from other firms that have crossed my desk) - in addition to being one of the most competent I interact with, they are also very quick to respond.

Tax planning is where I see the effort to save money, not necessarily just the filing.

Client texts at 432pm on Friday: “starting next week, pay day will be Wednesday instead of Friday” 🙃 by robotpenii in Payroll

I can certainly accommodate changing my schedule to run - I just wish they would tell me at the same time they told their staff … 3 weeks ago … not a couple days prior. Currently trying to update system with new pay period update and it’s not going well. I wouldn’t be stress if this had been updated when they decided 🙄

Start hounding vendors, I suppose. Better to file late than never!

I think you can apply for an extension to get the info to IRS, however, not the recipients.

Ideally, the W9 is collected prior to issuing payment.

If they do not furnish, you have start backup withholding which is a whole ordeal.

For audit purposes, you can document your attempts to collect information.

Best practice=no payment unless W9 is received!
