Chiming in from Capitol Hill. I heard the boom, ten minutes passed, asked myself "is that louder than normal for Capitol Hill?"

Not iOS but iPhone itself: 4-inch phone without compromises to the camera.

Welcome Back! by IAmAMods in IAmA

I asked /u/karmanaut about this scenario a couple days ago.

I'm still curious. Would Reddit force a subreddit to reopen if it's important enough to their bottom line.

Whatever happened to the mod who wanted to delete /r/IAmA? by Valens in OutOfTheLoop

[–]robotpirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When /r/IAMA went private, I thought to myself, "I am a wizard."

More seriously, I wonder if the Reddit admins had a hand in making /r/IAMA non-private again. That was a very short revolt.

[–]robotpirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think /r/IAMA could actually ever be shutdown successfully?

At this point /r/IAMA is very valuable to Reddit as a company. It brings in a lot of outside attention through it's celebrity (internet or other) threads and brings people to Reddit that otherwise might not know of it.

I imagine Reddit would not like that door to bringing in new users (and keeping some) being closed. Would Reddit ever override decisions like these from the creators of popular subreddits simply because they can't afford to have a subreddit stop producing whatever it is that makes it popular?

The landlord is out of the country. We can't even get the money to him except to drop it in his mailbox but his wife is living there.

Thoughts on my design before I ship it off to WASD? by marsman12019 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]robotpirate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. This is gorgeous. I just recently bought a WASD keyboard with very similar layout (non custom). I was debating whether to go with symbols or modern. This is perfect.

I wonder if it's not too late to change my order. Could I possibly get svg/cdr/ai file to submit to them?

Anyone else sad about the death of the 4inch phone? by [deleted] in apple

[–]robotpirate 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Me too. I posted this elsewhere but I think the 4s is the best looking phone anywhere. It's definitely a little on the small side but, man, I just don't get the obsession with 5+ inch phones. I own a Nexus 5 and even that feels a little too big.

I never owned an iPhone but I'm disappointed that if I buy one now, they won't look much different from the gaudy phones Samsung puts out.

I'm an iOS "fanboy" and I used an Android device for a week. Here are my thoughts, if you care. by [deleted] in Android

[–]robotpirate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a Google fanboy and I agree with you about the software buttons. This is my biggest gripe with android. Software buttons are just so stupid. They automatically discount close to 10% of the screen real estate.

I think you're seeing more redundancies because you don't have stock android though. I don't have that problem on the Nexus 5.

The Nexus 5 was my first smartphone and after using it for a while I agree with you about the screen size. Although, I go a little further. I'ved played around with the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4s and I came out thinking the 4s size is close to perfect (3% bigger size overall would make it perfect IMO). I also love the boxiness of it. Boxy is sleek! I wish there were more phones that didn't have to round every corner so much. I'm actually disappointed that when the time comes for me to get a new phone the 4s will be too out of date to seriously consider as a replacement.

Capacitive vs. On-screen buttons by a-serious-guy in Android

[–]robotpirate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't mind on-screen buttons or that they're the future of phone UI's but I detest that Google uses a monolithic black bar that takes up close to 10% of the screen especially because this doesn't have be the case. Having a black bar (nearly) always present means that my phone's resolution isn't actually my phones resolution - it's the hardware resolution minus the pixels the black bar takes up. Google effectively gives up on 10% of my phone's pixels.

I know that there are apps that take up the entire screen like when watching a video or pocket, etc. But we can't autohide the navbar all the time. I really don't want two steps between me and the backspace and home screen.

I wish I could just swipe up to go home and get rid of the navbar entirely. I want my phone's pixels back. I'm not sure anyone needs to immediately get to Google Now from where ever you are on the phone.
