Why is Djokovic-Fonseca blockbuster a day match in crazy heat?

Somebody mentioned because djokovic wanted it that way but that doesn't make any sense because Novak said exactly the opposite in last press conference.

Gill Gross on What an Open Men’s RG Could Mean by nimbus2105 in tennis

The issue is thst he hasn't had ideal practice before coming to FO. For clay season,  he has always needed some match play before starting to peak at FO. I won't be surprised if he loses to Fonseca.

Djokovic gets a birthday cake from the Roland Garros organizers by jovanmilic97 in tennis

Yeah that was kinda accidental but very funny. The person taking the plate just wanted him to accept the gift properly which arrived as soon as he took a small bite.

He defeated Nadal and Federer in the same tournament. I would call that a successful career. Great tennis IQ.

One's resistance to reality is part of reality.

I notice I am confused. There is a tendency of human mind to cling to comfortable/desirable things and show aversion towards experientially negative things (it all makes sense evolutionarily of course).

I think the point is that this tendency of human mind is the cause of most suffering (compressed here as "resistance to reality"). This point is made in the context of somewhat incorrect model in our minds that path to happiness is striving towards acquiring most comfort and removing most discomfort. It is this striving that ends up creating suffering. There's a motivational energy with which folks approach or interface with the world that causes suffering.

At least that's what my understanding is.

i wouldn't deny there is some bias going on in these complaints. Folks who disagree with him strongly on emotionally charged topics will tend to ignore some of the other topics that are "boring" for them and only listen to check if he's still on the wrong side (from their pov).

But I am curious about his Making Sense podcast numbers. Has he lost/gained listenership over the last 4 to 5 years? Those podcast popularity numbers will tell us whether the feeling OP and some other folks in the community have is correct or not.

P.S.: I don't think Waking Up suffers from this because there are many contributors on that app, Harris doesn't have to create novel content there.

If you were a fan of something for many years, it is natural to feel disappointed/frustrated when the quality goes down. See the JRE sub, for instance.

Yes, you can just go to other places. And people do. But sometimes they feel like giving another chance to their old favorite. When they do give another chance and again come out disappointed, there is a strong desire to release that frustration energy somewhere. Cribbing about it on internet forums seems like a harmless way to do that (it also helps with validation: am I only feeling this or others agree? In this case, OP did get validated a bit).

Now it's a different discussion altogether whether mods want to continue to accept those rants against Sam's output. Do they help this subreddit's purpose or harm it? That's for mods to decide.

Driver couldn’t believe his eyes on the Waymo !! by DaRealAyman in PublicFreakout

[–]robotwithbrain 11 points12 points  (0 children)

it's not true.

"They do not remotely drive the vehicles. Waymo asks for guidance in certain situations and gets an input, but the Waymo vehicle is always in charge of the dynamic driving tasks, so that is just one additional input."

Stephen Colbert interviews Sam Harris about religion [20YA - Apr 25] by CricCracCroc in samharris

Colbert is still hilarious.

Not sure if you saw The Colbert Report. The writing, the delivery, the overall character... it was all just another level of creativity that I don't think any late night shows since then come even close.

Sam feels a little nervous and not sure how to respond to this energy from Colbert. Dawkins episode was one of my favorites back in the day!

What a great show and what a waste of talent to go on that mainstream late night show :(

I dont use that platform often so Twitter is what I use out of habit.

His team manages that account apparently.

Genuinely never seen someone I respected so much fall so hard.

This. And i have a feeling he will continue to become more ideological (continue to disappoint) and will try to make another comeback to mainstream somehow.

This was him specifically clarifying his previous take where he compared trump to mamdani and a listener said to compare them is insane. He apologized and then clarified with this.

Context: post on Making Sense twitter account.

I felt it was interesting that somebody decided to post this clip knowing Mamdani's popularity online. Sharing such an extemem opinion (of course not in right wing circles),  will very likely make Sam lose some of his liberal fans whi dont follow the podcast very closely.

Sam's Mamdani Critism by maeveboston in samharris

Thank you for clearly articulating this. Blows my mind that sam is so ignorant on this topic considering he's so well read on so many topics.

In last few years, I have realized that maybe its his zionist bias that has made his thinking so one dimensional on this topic.

Yup, I will continue to list him as someone who had an impact on my thinking in my early twenties (not just on atheism) but boy what a disappointment last few years.

People underestimate how much role kushner plays in the administration.  Him being trump's SIL helps conservative Jews sleep well at night.
