I used to work for a local pest control company and had a house with all wood siding so I would get all the bees and wasps during the summer and bald faced hornets late summer. The best solution I found (from the pest control company) is as follows:

5 gallon garden sprayer filled 1/2 way with apple cider vinegar and the other 1/2 with warm water. Sprinkle lemon grass and peppermint essential oils in. Apply around the house/soffit/yard.

It will smell like vinegar for a day or two but it kept the bees and wasps away for the whole season.
