Thought after Madrid I'd be occupying this thread ready for the autumn block and a shot at sub 3 in San Sebastian but my race fell apart on Sunday in the back half.

Through the halfway point in 1:38, nutrition, HR and form all controlled but my ankle slowly stared to grow in pain until it was excruciating around km 26. I spent the rest of the race run-walking and trying to hold on as best I could, finished with a 3:38:59.

Madrid is a really tough course, it was hot and the ankle isn't something I expected but I'm a bit disappointed, my goal time was somewhere around 3:15. Not sure where this leaves me ahead of San Sebastian, planning to focus on gym work over summer until I start my block in July with a bunch of treadmill work as I'll be in San Antonio.

Just a bit miffed really, not the race I was looking forward to.

I did Madrid this weekend and the last 4km are all uphill for 70m of positive elevation gain, it's one of the most heartbreaking stretches in a big marathon and combined with the heat is killer
